Courtey of Sportsnet.ca:

No Gretzky at Coyotes camp

"GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Wayne Gretzky is in limbo right along with the Phoenix Coyotes.

As the players for the bankrupt NHL team reported to Jobing.com Arena for medical testing and the start of training camp on Saturday morning, the Coyotes head coach was nowhere to be found.

Instead, the NHL's all-time leading scorer elected to stay away because of a contractual situation that remains uncertain because of the team's current bankruptcy case. While high-ranking executives from both the team and the league insist Gretzky is still the Coyotes coach, there was no indication of when he might actually take control again."

...Well, that's not going to help this team any. This is going to harm ticket-sales further, making it even more difficult to contain losses for the upcoming season.

What a sad fiasco this is turning out to be.

i almost just wish they fold them, and grant a city an expansion team.

This is becoming an embarrassment that is starting to engulf the team's staff, not just the creditors.

But, but, but, at least they aren't being allowed to move to Hamilton where hockey could never, ever succeed.

Should we throw the pity party for the Coyotes, or do you think they've already got one going?

That's pretty bad.

If Bettman has his way, and the team stays in Phoenix this season...they are just going to stink it up and sell less tickets so they have to move next season or the season after that.

I would say that the Coyote's did not gain a lot of fans this offseason. Putting that out there.

At this point, there is no winning for Gary Bettman. Only delaying what will happen.

Question is, will this lose him his job?

Probably not, but he'll lose more credibility

I don't understand how the BoG hasn't seen the ""red flags" all around, regarding the image he has brought down on the league.

He was supposed to polish up the NHL's image; make it shiny and immaculate. Make the league a "hot property" that attracted fans, advertisers, world-class branding and positive "face time".

He's managed to make them look like small-time, bumbling douches...

Can the owners not see this? Are they really that high on his brand of Kool-Aid?
