Really?

This point is so wrong it's not even worth debating.

You may not, but I will.

Let's hear your more compelling case for Rochester's historically-significant superiority over Buffalo's. I want to read how hard you fall on your face.

all i have to say is kodak, bausch and lomb, and xerox. rochester is pretty damn historically significant, even if its shit now.

I'm not gonna argue those at all, but like Tom said, in the grand scheme of things Buffalo has had much more historical significance than Rockchester.

If you guys are interested in learning more about Buffalo's history, you should read Mark Godlman's book, City on the Edge. It's a great read.

One of my coworkers recently moved from Buffalo and he lives here in Pittsburgh. He told me our roads are insane, as far as traffic and how difficult it is to get around here. I concur, I know that all too well!

Other than that I've always been proud of where I come from, my little Burgh just keeps reinventing itself in order to not only survive, but prosper. From the worlds greatest steel hub to one of the worlds greatest medical hubs. From prospering neighborhoods that became run down and ruined, and then rebuilt again better than ever. And what can't be redeveloped is turned back to nature with agriculture development right in the middle of ghettos.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sick of this place. lol But I love it.

Kind of overpriced because of the view and traveling convenience, not for me but ideal for younger lads and lasses.

not only was it where mckinley was assassinated, but that very event also caused the inauguration of roosevelt to take place in buffalo. this made buffalo the first city that wasn't currently the nation's capital to have a presidential inauguration.

it's not as if i don't know about the history, i'm just sick of hearing it. it doesn't impress me.

to me, these historical tidbits are the equivalent of saying "did you know you can't get close to a rainbow?" every city has a history, that's a given. for example, shenandoah, pa is a tiny town that can lay claim to the dorsey brothers and the pierogi, among other things.

i do see how i'm an asshole for attempting to point that out, though. at least if i try to rag on someone from philly they have enough historical claims to where they don't resign themselves to this sort of argumentation. i understand why everyone is so defensive; if you depend upon a strong history, it irks you when someone tries to downplay it. i just don't think buffalo should remain contented with its place in history, because it's fading out just like the city itself.

Basically, it's because this is a forum full of Buffalo residents, and unlike you, decide to focus on the positive. You're seriously an asshole for continuing this discussion. Go argue with Philadelphians. That's all we're saying. This is supposed to be a feel-good thread.

i'm just sick of the pride everyone has in this area. i love it here... sometimes. sure, it's pretty... like anywhere else in the northeast.

i'm pompous, awesome. now allow me to be exceeded by more pompous buffalonians.

No offense, but you're really starting to get on my nerves and you're being a really huge douchebag. I agree with the rest of my fellow Buffalonians, leave this city if you don't have pride in it. I may be only 14, but I love this city, and I plan on staying here my whole life.

Buffalo has some of the greatest architecture in the country. And that's not just some BS that ~proud Buffalonians~ made up, it's renown. Boom.

Let me use big words for you, since you're having a difficult time comprehending.

NOBODY IS SUGGESTING THAT ANYONE SHOULD SIMPLY BE CONTENT WITH ANYTHING. We are simply saying that despite of the tough road that lies ahead, we're proud of what we have and what we came from. That's all

I think I speak for all of us when I say...

I'd also like to point out that it was the place where Frederick Douglas published an abolitionist newspaper and his grave is there if we're talking about history.

I went to high school with some folks that had the same 'Buffalo sucks' attitude...

Unfortunately, there seem to quite a few people in Buffalo with that exact same attitude. It was one of the things that drove me out of there. I grew up in Olean and there EVERYONE would talk about how much Olean sucks, and how they couldn't wait to "get out". It made me want to leave too. I thought when I went to Buffalo after college, there wouldn't be the same inferiority complex, but I found out the same thing happens there.

Buffalo does have a lot going for it, but mostly all I heard about was the bad side. Eventually that shit got to me, and I left town. It's really too bad because if people did focus on what they have instead of what they don't, I think it would make Buffalo a better place.
