Hey guys. My wife and I have been keeping the belt tight for years so I can stay home with the kids. We have a pretty large chunk of credit card debt, student loans and car payments. I was wondering about these places that claim to be able to consolidate your debt into a lower monthly payment. Are there any that aren't a scam and if so how does it work? Just seeing what aption there are for getting out of the debt hole.

Also, I have been thinking of getting a part time job and work fromt he house but I have no idea where to start when it comes to working at home. I don't need tp bring in a huge check, just something to help out while still being able to be here for the kids.

If you want something that's going to be quick (though won't really rake in huge amounts of cash) you can try doing one of the survey sites. I do surveys on Opinion Outpost, and I've made about 55 bucks so far... though, that's been over a long period of time. But still, it's legit, and if you'd like doing something that won't take out a huge chunk of your time, it works pretty well. My roommates use it, and I'm pretty sure both of them have also made around the 50-60 buck range, maybe more.

Hit the googles for something like government backed debt consolidation and/or loans.

There are places that have the governmental stamp of approval for not being a scam (if you want to take their word for it anyway). ;)

Stop using your credit cards for anything except monthly bills or anything that's part of your living expenses that is set up as an automatic payment. Then MAKE A BUDGET. Determine exactly how much you need for a month of living WITHOUT any extras (mainly entertainment), and figure out realistically if there's any leftover with which to pay down your debt. Then if there's just not enough to do anything besides pay like minimum balances, you'll need to consider consolidation or something like that. But I'd say if you can do it yourself, you really should because those credit consolidators aren't in it out of the kindness of their hearts.
