Hi all...just checking in to see how things are keeping up around here.

I figure I should explain my recent absence....some of you know from FB and the twitters and some probably do not.
A couple months ago my wife was diagnosed with stage IV non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and the cancer had spread into her bones (which has added some unpleasant complexities).
She's roughly half way done with her chemotherapy treatments (depending how you count them) and so far she's been responding well to them. She's got a good prognosis of a 70% cure rate and a 50% relapse rate after that.
Needless to say my life quickly shifted into "full time father of two" mode instead of my usual "hardly working while dicking around on the internet" mode. But hey, life happens.
I hope everyone is having a good summer. Rumor has it the team from LA is having some success this post season but you wouldn't know it living here. People are still more concerned with the Lakers failure than the Kings success.
Oh well, if there's a parade, I'm going.

That's awful, Cross! My thoughts and prayers to your wife and your family through this difficult time.

As for the Kings, I expect to see you in the videos online when they win.

Hey man, you seem to be handling better than most of us would. I'm hoping for the best for your wife. When my wife has been deployed I learned the single dad mode well. Adding medical nightmares on top of that would have been more than I could have coped with.

Little known fact : In addition to getting cancer, she also realized that she married Ed.

Thankfully she's fighting through that too.

You can pray for something and not have it be directed at a deity. 8-) The belief that something bigger then yourself that can be responsible for lifes challenges is a natural human instinct. Meditation(a sort of self prayer) is a good example of prayer without being directed at a deity. This unless you consider yourself god.

Best of luck with everything, Ed! I know this beast all too well and I know it can show it's ugly head when you least expect or want it to. Good to hear things are going well and I'll echo all of the words of everyone else here that we hope everything pans out and your wife makes a full recovery!!!

As always, if you need to vent or just spew out some stuff, we're all here for ya, man!

Well played sir. Excuse me while I use my powers to make your new sunroof leak. (I'm a passive aggressive vengeful deity.)

So far so good...
She's done 5 of the scheduled 6 regular chemo treatments. She went ahead with a recommended but optional chemo treatment which got injected into her spine. She reacted very badly and it put her in the hospital for almost 2 weeks on and off. That really sucked. After that we switched oncologists but she had to do another spinal treatment since she started it and the new oncologist did a much better job and she was out of the hospital the next day.
She's had a follow up PET scan which the internal medicine doc noted a "Complete interval resolution of the previously seen focal areas." and her blood counts have been upgraded from "zombie" to "human".

So we're not out of the woods yet and one more chemo to go until a proper bone marrow biopsy, but things are looking good.

I'll also note, taking care of two kids and a sick wife is a shit-ton of work....real work, not like the stuff I get paid for. :)

I can only imagine how being the primary parent, caregiver to your wife, and breadwinner must feel. Be sure to treat YOURSELF well too Cross, because you're going through a major crisis too.
