Actually, if what he is saying is all true, it's a pretty good deal if you have time and knowledge. You're talking basically a brand new engine and a lot of performace parts...but he'd be better off piecing it out, imo

*sigh*
I never got the whole "Let's put $12,000 of parts, paint and electronics onto a $1000 car" mentality. I'm surprised it doesn't have a giant rear spoiler to help with the front wheel drive.

I'm going to test drive this http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/3166306245.html in about an hour.

^How did the test drive go? I've always wanted one of those but my first VW experience just killed it.

Eh...it was ok. I think i've made the 16 valve GTI into something better than it is in my head. I had one for about a month when I was 16, and freaking LOVED it, I remember it utterly hauling ass. This did not live up to that memory, plus the body was pretty beat up, half the 'molding' (or whatever it's called, paneling?) on the exterior was gone, and i'd forgotten how cheap the things feel on the inside, and he wanted over 3K because he had put a decent suspension/wheels on it.

I passed.

Good choice, I would've passed too. Some of those old VWs, especially the old 16v GTIs can be really fun, but also money pits.

you like fast VW's?
My buddy has a (guessing the year) '09 R32...chipped, supercharged...it's the only car I've ever scared myself by driving.
I'd lose my license if I owned that car.

I love the sound of those 3.2-liter engines in the R32 and the VR6s that VW made.

yeah, my friend has a mod on his where you hit a button and a solenoid opens a damper in his exhaust which opens it up completely...the thing howls when the supercharger kicks in...it's awesome.

Awesome, I love how a lot of aftermarket companies are offering up the valve-controlled exhaust systems now.

I had a 12v VR6 in my 2000 Jetta. The car was horribly unreliable and had numerous problems, but I loved that exhaust note.

I drove my one buddy's MKIII with the 2.8 litre VR6 in it. That thing was quick.
