I don't see anyone talking about it here, but this sounds like a whole mess of awesome with a side of win for the city of Buffalo and the Sabres.
A 3 rink complex with attached hotel, parking and retail sounds completely bad-ass.

I imagine opposing teams could just stay at that hotel...the Sabres could use their regular dressing room and use a rink across the street (since they're attached) as a practice rink.
I could see that attracting peewee tournaments and the like as well. I'm really pumped to see this get done.

I am very excited about this. There are very few places actually in the city with rinks open to the public, it will help to grow youth hockey, and rec hockey alike. It also couldn't be coming at a better time in the city, as it will provide a lot of new jobs, and new opportunities for people to be put back to work down town. This is a win for everyone, and it's just another example of what an involved owner can do for the community his team plays in. Everybody wins here.

I'm intimidated.

...and Canisius came out today and said they're planing on the Webster block rinks to be their home ice in the future
http://www.thegriffincanisius.com/canis ... D_cj4qPU25

Quote:
"Our hope, and I know their hope, is that we would be an anchor tenant for them down there," Canisius athletic director Bill Maher said. "That would mean that our Division I hockey program would have a locker room down there and would practice down there and we would have our competition down there."

So we'll have college hockey and NHL hockey right across the street from each other.
Awesome.

Everything about this is awesome. Especially glad that Paladino seems like he's just accepting it and moving on. I half expected him to lose his mind and sue.

it would be nice if UB got a division one team. the CCHA is gonna need more teams if it hopes to survive the purge.
