Any bowlers out there?

I bowled in high school, started bowling in a league again last year for the first time in a few years.

I averaged 178 in high school, 191 as a starter.
First year of bowling club in college I averaged 185.
Brought that to 204 the next season.
Then I took my 2 year hiatus.
Averaged 187 coming back last season.

This season I'm currently at 203, only one week in.
I threw 20 strikes and had a first count average of 9.1 the first week (even with throwing a 1, a 5 and a 6 on shots).
Spare conversion was abysmal (7/12). That's what happens when you haven't practiced in a while.

Nope.

However; the man who started The Meet And Greets a few years back, was a Bowler, who's Sabres Forum name was Bowler. He sadly passed away a couple years back. The forum reps at his funeral left an autographed Martin Biron picture at his memorial, as Bowler was a huge Biron fan.

We miss you Mark.......... :(

I bowl, but not well. My closing average last season was somewhere in the 130's.

Gotta get a custom fit ball with a surface and counterweight that will allow it to hook. The location of the finger holes makes all the difference.

I've seen people put some pretty sick hook on house balls, it's tough as heck though. Especially with the overly-large or small conventional grip.

Fingertips are the only way to go.

Yeah, a lot of house balls used to belong to someone so they have professional grips and counterweights. I like to use lighter bowling balls to pick up splits.

i was actually thinking it would be cool to some day build a regulation size alley at my house...but i think regulation is 88' long...that's a lot of house you would need...don't think i would have the room

Do you have any idea what it costs to build a bowling alley??

We built one at work; with four lanes, AMF; it was six figures......

I bowled a horrible 461 series this past week. I had 5 splits in the first game, all of them on shots that hit the pocket. I was mystified. I think the oil pattern cause my angle of entry to be all fucked up.

The last game I said fuck it and stopped lining myself up and I shot a 186, my best game of the night. It's tough when you leave 9 splits in three games, all on decent hits in the pocket.

Not the ones around here, it seems. They're all generic non-weighted conventional grips that come in a multitude of sizes that will always guarantee the inability to fit the thumb in or gapingly large holes for the other fingers.

Sometimes I swear there are gods that rule over bowling - I can throw what seems to be an identical ball three times and only strike one of them.

I use to bowl. My average was either a 165 or 170ish. I can't remember. All I do remember is I was very inconstant I'd get a strike or a spare and then follow it up with an open. One time I got the 7 pin on the first ball and the 10 pin with the second leaving the other 8 pins standing.

i <3 bowling! soooo much
I do believe you already knew that though haha
i bowled on Varsity, my team only lost one match all my years on it, and that was in 8th grade. all 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th we were undefeated. Placed third in states (on a bad day) my junior year, and won other random tournaments throughout the years. My senior year I averaged 194.4 or some decimal around there.
My high game and series I had in my senior year during a tournament we won. The afternoon set I bowled a three game 720 series with a 256 game in there.

I miss bowling.

I didn't know you bowled! How did I not know that? Damn, your high series is higher than mine (666 four times). We won the league championship my senior year, crapped out in sectionals. I was averaging 203 for a while this season. My high season average was 204.

The key would be in getting the wood ar a reasonable price. If they are tearing out an old gyn floor somewhere perhaps. Carpenters/schools will often buy the wood from old bowling alleys because it's such hard - level wood that it is ideal for gym floors.
