Germany will be without one of their best players tomorrow - Thomas Mueller...This will make the match against Spain a toss up in my mind.
I'd ask if you'd been smoking something...but I think we've already had that thread
imho...NO WAY. Saying mueller will tilt it even is like saying pominville's presence will decide a sabres game, he's just not vital. Germany has such depth, such an astounding TEAM mentality that the presence of one dude will not make a difference. I'd say the same thing if Klose, Podolski or Schweinstiegger (fuck how is that spelled?) were out, these guys are so much more than individuals.
My call, 3-1 Germany.
Wow, I could not have been wronger. I cant believe how poorly Germany played, they gave Spain WAY too much respect, basically letting spain dictate play for the entire first half of the game. What a shitfest.
I don't think you were necessarily wrong about it and I feel the absence of Mueller did affect the team slighty but mainly the problem was in the two styles of play within both teams. Spain loves to play a possession type of game where they hold onto the ball while on the flip side, Germany strives for the counter attack (clearly seen against England and Argentina). However both those teams (Argentina/England) especially Argentina play an offensive game where they push the ball up and try to generate scoring chances and when they ran into a strong defensive team in Germany, they lost the ball and Germany used the counter attack to perfection where they pushed the bal up quickly and in doing so out numbered the opposing teams defenders, this providing numerous scoring chances in which they capitalized on.
When Germany ran into spain the counter attack failed due to Spains ability to control possession of the ball. Even when Germany got control of the ball and attempted the counter attack tactic Spain was very strong at the back. The possession showed it all, Spain played with the ball probably more than half the entire game, out shot the Germans (although they were only able to capitalize once) and limited Germany to 3/4 shots. Germany has been able to win without having more possession but because of the counter attack they were able to manage 7-8 shots a game in which they capitalized on.
I don't believe Germany lost that game, they we're merely out possessed/played. Mueller being absence can be argued to have disrupted chemistry and the replacement player sure wasn't the same caliber but definitely not large enough to throw the loss on.
