it's funny...rugby players don't break tackles often (and it's not because we're not athletic) and we rarely get head/neck injuries, even at the professional levels.

you can clean someone out really well even if you wrap and drive, and it almost never involves head contact.

i'm not bragging, but for an example, i broke a guys ribs with a clean as day tackle...he tried to run me over but i was lower and i drove through him. (i felt horrible, but he's fine...i just use this to explain clean hits can be HARD hits)

Yeah, let's have NFL players come to rugby and kill your players. They did a test, a corner back from football had 4,000 more pounds of pressure compared to a rugby player. If the NFL doesn't wear equipment, the players die.

they wouldn't. i saw that test, it was on that stupid spike tv show.

yeah, you can generate more force by diving at someone at full speed without using any athletic ability. but it's really hard and solid to wrap and drive. yeah, if the nfl doesn't wear pads now, someone dies, because none of those fucks can tackle at all.

and it wasn't 4000 pounds of pressure more, not even close.

Yeah, I got 9.1 pounds of force extra from an NFL player because of the added equipment weight.

Assumed 10 pounds of equipment
20mph decelerating to zero upon impact

Also, I suck at physics so I might have screwed it up completely.

the mechanics of an NFL "tackle" and a rugby tackle is not reflected in your equation.

there is a big difference in force between turning yourself into a missile and a real tackle.

Well when was the last time in the NFL you saw someone actually tackle someone, and just run into them full force and knock them down?

I think that answers the question, you can deflect the blow from a god damn goon running at you at full speed.

It's like the MMA fighters that punch a bag a 2200 lbs of force. You can hit a stationary object like that, sure, now hit a moving target, that is turning away from the blow.

2200 lbs of force is like getting hit by a small Toyota.
