Remaining free agents that could help the Sabres if the price is right.
Patrick O'Sullivan
Guy was supposed to be a can't miss prospect, but so far in the NHL has struggled on below average teams.
He has scored 20 goals in the NHL 1 time, but has been on some horrific teams, Edmonton, LA Kings. Even if you get typical O'Sullivan performance, you're going to get 35-40 points, and some solid two way play. I think at a price tag around 1.25-1.5M he'd be a nice addition to our roster.
Jonathan Cheechoo
Another guy that under performs to his talent level. Perhaps not the best guy to stick into a Lindy Ruff system, but the guy has scored 50+ goals once, and over 20 4 out of his 7 NHL seasons. If he'd take a 1M 1yr contract, he could become a talented RW, especially for some depth at a position we lack skill at already.
Bill Guerin
Strong, big body, nice 3rd to 4th line guy. Can still chip in a few goals, but is primarily a PK guy, and an energy guy at this point in his career.
Trying out with the Flyers in camp, but if he doesn't make the roster, could be had for a song.
Mike Comrie
What's there to say about Comrie, he's your average NHL forward. Not great, not bad, but always a solid player. Could add some excellent depth at Center, and brings some veteran experience as well.
Out of all of these guys, Cheechoo is the guy I see fitting in best, because he is a RW with 1st line talent, and AHL Brains. Playing with Roy and Vanek could make him look real smart again though. None of these guys are horrible options, but none of them are superstar scorers either.
What do you guys think, who and why?
Have fun with this, it's not meant to be a proposed pick up...for the love of God if what I said here had any influence on Darcy Regier; I'd question his ability to be a GM.
