Basically John McCain's stance on repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell went from "I support repeal if the military study supports it" to "the military study is wrong."

His run for President dragged him further to the right than he used to be.
He actually used to live up to the maverick title.

but whatever, politicians are hypocrites and DADT is just a political football ATM...hell, the justice dept is fighting a federal court ruling declaring it unconstitutional.

Criticize Obama for that nonsense, not McCain.

To be fair, that isn't Obama's directive. It's a long standing policy at the Justice Department to defend any existing law from legal challenges, even if the President is trying to get it repealed.

I understand Justice is tasked with defending standing law, but it's surely within the power of the executive to have some discretion.

You know, like letting indicted Black Panthers walk for no bloody reason kind of discretion.

The overwhelming majority of troops support getting rid of don't ask don't tell, along with most of Americans.....but we all know that that doesn't matter much. I'm disgusted by the inaction of Obama. His promises and go get 'em brand he sold the public during the election has turned out to be crap.

As far as McCain, he said he would repeal don't ask don't tell if the majority of military folks wanted it....now he's back peddled. He's lost all respect (in the political sense) I had for him. I thought he was a great candidate when he was running against Obama until his crew started with the dirty pool tactics but now with such an obviously supported step needing to be made, he's pandering to the ultra-right. Oh well.
