I'll scour some 2nd round mock drafts tomorrow, to see if there are any diamonds in the rough that we could pull up into the 1st round (ala Tyler Ennis)

Mostly because I've focused on Windsor so much this season, but I like Koko from the Spits.

McNeil is my pick. 82 pts in the dub in his draft year is pretty good. Big body centerman, haven't seen him though, wonder what his feet are like?
Grimaldi should be taken off the list. I doubt Darcy picks some 5'6 in the first.

Tyler Biggs - RW USHL is another interesting idea as is Nicolas Jensen - RW - OHL (Dane can put the puck in the net).

But i tend to agree with you McNeill is high on my list too. Him and Zack Phillips - C - St. John.
I don't know if McNeill will be available at 16 or later.

two defenseman are Siemens (big, mean, smart) - LHD WHL, and Oleksiak - LHD Northeastern (6'7"), but i would think we need a center.

I really like Mcneill, apparently he was a beast, and the best player on the ice in the Prince Albert- Saskatoon series. Saskatoon being 40+ points better than the Raiders in the standings needed 6 games to bounce them...

I have a feeling McNeil is gonna be a draft day riser. If Oleksiak drops down to us, even though we don't need another d-man, I would draft him. Myers and Oleksiak beside each other will intimidate anyone.

Here's the deal. This team needs offensive prospects in the worst possible way. Plus we need to draft another goalie or is Leggio the guy this team will sign and develop. We have plenty of d-man in the system. Psysk, McNabb, Brennan, Crawford. I don't think Defense is a priority. Besides Kassian, Foligno and Luke Adam this team is thin on forwards. Draft day you have to draft the best possible player available or guy that can make the NHL. So it should be interesting to see what happens.

Leggio is already signed to an NHL contract.

My thoughts are that if you can get a steal in the draft, but it's not a position you're in need of, you take it anyway. It's an asset, and can be used to procure what you need. But the fact that you got a steal means the value is greater. That's even more true for certain prospects, like right-handed defensemen.

Saw McNeil play today in the u-18's semi-final against USA. Kid can play. Skates well and is a smart player. I dont see him dropping down to us but if he does I'd say its a no-brainer. Kinda plays like Adam but with better wheels.

Mark McNeill
"I had the opportunity to watch Mark McNeil a couple times this season, and can’t imagine him not going in the top-10. With all respects to the Winterhawks Sven Baertschi, once you get past Nugent-Hopkins, McNeil is by far the best available forward from the WHL. He can do it all, dish, shoot, hit, fight, and skate at an extremely high tempo. The 18-year-old was one of just a few positives on a Prince Albert squad that just made the playoffs." - Dan Sallows

Mika Zibanejad: Right handed Center, G: 5, A: 4, GP: 26, Ht: 6'2", Wt 194lbs
"It’s no secret I’m a huge Mika Zibanejad fan, if not for the fact that the big centre is a skilled guy who doesn’t shy away from going to the dirty areas of the ice in order to make a play, and has a tremendous skill set. Than because he has a knack for coming through in the clutch, and a Crosby-like work ethic which sees him want to perfect every part of his game. Once he got his feet wet playing against men in the Swedish Elite League, the 17-year-old was one of Djurgården’s most reliable and consistent players. Zibanejad has the ability to make the opposition look bad by laying them out with a hit, or simply deking them out of their jocks." - Dan Sallows

http://dansallows.com/2011-nhl-entry-dr ... prospects/

If McNeill is not on the board and they think they can trade back to get say Jenner or Phillips. Granlund's brother Marcus is probably a high second rounder. I remember Jay being high on Mikael. Marcus has been strong for his team after a bit of a rough start.

Marcus Granlund, Position: Centre. Shoots: Left. Height: 5.10. Weight: 169. 40 GP, 20 G, 32 A, 52 PTS
"The crafty Granlund is another little player that packs a big offensive punch. He is a nice skater, very elusive, has good hands, an excellent compete level, and outstanding playmaking skills. Markus has been unbelievable for Finland internationally, and always seems to come through in the clutch. His older brother (Mikael) was a first round pick (9th overall) by the Minnesota Wild in 2010, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Wild select the younger Granlund if he is around in the second round. Easily the best brother duo to come out of Finland since the Koivu’s." - Dan Sallows

Sabres will have players in for 1st time

Paul Hamilton

Toronto, ON (WGR 550) -- The Bills have always done it in football, but the Sabres have never had prospects come to Buffalo before the draft. That is all changing with Terry Pegula owning the team.

Sabres Director of Amateur Development Kevin Devine has been in Toronto this week for the NHL Combine. He says his staff is coming in to Buffalo along with some prospects, "What we're going to do next week is we're going to bring the scouting staff into Buffalo next week and we're bringing in for the first time, because we now have the resources behind us the kids to test ourselves. It's close by and we're bringing in some of the guys that are in our wheelhouse for the first pick. The scouts are going to get a look at those guys and then we'll finish up our draft list."

One of the things Pegula talked about on Day 1 was putting resources into scouting. Devine said, "As far as Tom Golisano and Larry Quinn, people forget that they did come in and who knows if hockey would even be in Buffalo right now if it wasn't for those guys, but because we have the resources, I don't have to worry about things. At one point I probably qualified as a travel agent getting the guys out on their trips at the end of the year. It's a great relief off of me not to have to worry about that kind of stuff and just that we've got this extra stuff that we can do know, it means a little more work , but hopefully it gives us the tools to do a better job."

Getting back to the reason we're all in Toronto this week, the Combine. Devine said, "We've got a select group of guys that we're looking at. The first thing we do is check what their body looks like, if they're cut or if they have a little bit of fat on them. The next thing we're looking at is the cardio stuff. They're both very hard tests and we just want to see how far they push until the end. Overall it'll be Sabres Strength and Conditioning coach Doug McKenney who will tell me what it is. Sometimes you can get fooled by that stuff. We do the interviews during the week and all the kids are real nervous about the cardio tests. They're always heard stories and you could see it when the first group came in here and the staff started yelling and screaming trying to motivate the guys on the bike, everybody starts glancing over there so it's a hard program for those kids and a lot of them just end up throwing up."

The guys got questioned by the teams earlier in the week. Devine said, "We're trying to get a grasp of their personality. You got to really watch you don't take too much from it. I remember Don Luce telling me the worst interview he ever did was Peter Forsberg, so some of these kids come in, the European kids especially, they're kind of shy and nervous. I look for maturity level, how focused are they."

I would like to see them draft Boone Jenner. I have seen him play and He's big and can score but the only bad thing is he is kind of slow.

Plus I went to high school with his older brother and my little brother went to school with Boone.

Based on your description, he sounds like another Luke Adam.

Luke Adam can't score though.

Luke Adam had 29 goals last year in the AHL as a rookie, which was 6 more than Ennis had as a rookie the year before. And Ennis played in more games....

Bartschi has talent oozing out his ears. Good skater and good with the puck. Also has the most points of any of the guys you listed up there. Could he slip down to the Sabres? I wouldn't mind.
