The Sabres should talk to the Devils about a possible trade for Parise. Currently NJ has app. $7m available and need to sign 7 guys. They have 5 d-men signed, only 4 played NHL hockey this year. I would offer NJ Sekera and perhaps a pick for Parise. If we can sign Parise for around $6m, I believe Staff would then sign for a discount, maybe about $3m. With Staff and Parise playing on the same junior team, college team and 3 world juniors teams together, I think this would be a perfect move for Buffalo. I believe a columnist also suggested this, can't recall who though. If this would happen, I then would try to sign a veteran d-man like Erhoff or Bieksa.

Sekera and pick for Parise straight up? Definitely sounds possible.

i don't think you'll see the devils let go of parise for anything short of a lopsided trade.

Parise's qualifying offer is $5m to start. NJ has $7m to sign 7 guys. Sekera and a 1st should work. Also NJ has to resign Hedberg which should be about $2m.

I would love Parise, but he would have to pick a different number since we have Roy.

I would be for it. Plus the Devils couldnt afford a lopsided trade. If they just gave us Parise and we gave them 3 or 4 players they wouldnt be able to afford it with the 7 million cap for the players that they need to sign etc etc.

Two issues -

1) Parise is LW and we're pretty well off with Vanek, Ennis, Gerbe, Hecht, and/or McCormick. We may need Hecht and/or McCormick at C though, and put Gerbe down to 4th line LW with Parise, Vanek, and Ennis above him.

2) Parise may not be the same player after wrecking his knee. I hope not but with Regier's penchant for trading for injured players (Moore, Torres) it's something to consider.

If those issues are not a problem, then a couple young, talented, and cheap players are what NJ would have to take for him based on their cap situation. I'm sure other teams could offer more than some combination of Buffalo's RFA d-men and picks. It's worth a few calls though.

Also fwiw, I doubt Stafford can command more than 3 mil as an RFA coming off one big season, "hometown discount" or not.

I like the idea but if we did this would we have enough money to go for a #1 center? If we can somehow get rid of Hecht and Morrison this summer than I think we could work out a deal cash wise but we'd also would probably have to trade either Gerbe or Ennis for Parise to actually have a decent role on the team, for the money I mean. And sticking Gerbe on the 4th line is just telling the guy to leave. He deserves to be on one of the top 3. Darcy could just put Morrison and Hecht on waivers and if a team doesn't pick them up they can stay in Portland/Rochester. But we are loaded as is on LW. With Vanek, Ennis and Gerbe leading the charge.

A #1 center is and should be our #1 priority this summer. #2 would be getting a stud on the backend.

Parise is NOT leaving NJ. They have enough cap room to sign him. They're not going to let him go. I put Parise in the pile with guys like Spezza, who aren't going to be available for anything except a gross overpayment that would set the team back.

They might have enough cap room to sign HIM, but they also need to sign 9 other players with that cap space.

Get Parise and have Vanek switch to RW, he played a lot of RW for the team this year.

Wingers are interchangeable. You can play left and right if you play wing.

So that would be Parise, Roy, Vanek, then Ennis on the second line and so on? DAYUM!

No you don't, you can just switch to your forehand....... I'm a winger, and I can play both Right and Left wings, but I personally like Left wing better because I'm left handed, and it's easier for me on the breakout.

Most of those players are RFAs, so their tenders won't be that much more than their current cap hit. Also, the cap is going to go up to around 61 million, which will give them about 8 million in cap space. The only UFA they might resign is Hedburg. This gives them enough money to keep Parise in NJ, UNLESS some team offer sheets him for something crazy like 9 million a year.

They still have 3 UFA's and Parise is most likely gonna get a raise to about 5.6-6m. 2M in cap space for 3 players.......

if you are skating forward? that seems difficult.

No, it's not, you just switch to forehand and go.

Look at the UFAs they have, though - Mair, Hedburg (They might just let him go - Brodeur is a horse), Andy Greene, and Jay Leach. They could let every single one of those guys go and barely notice.

All the UFAs and RFAs for NJ are under 1 mil, except for Hedberg. NJ could fill all those holes with call-ups or minimum QOs for the RFAs and still have up to 6 mil to sign Parise (assuming a 61 mil cap limit).

They would have a huge drop off after the top two lines, and only one good d-pairing, but they could still keep Parise if they want to. With big contracts like Rolston, White, Salvador, and Broduer coming off the roster in 2012-13, I would do everything to keep Parise in the meantime and make improvements later. You never know though if NJ might be open to a move.
