From the Miami Herald -

"-- The Panthers announced that Tim Kennedy has been sent to AHL San Antonio, the only cut of the night excluding Tyler Plante.

Kennedy will have to clear waivers to make it to San Antonio. One reason he spent most of last season in the AHL was the Rangers -- and then the Panthers -- were afraid he would be lost in the waiver process.

We'll see what happens this time around."

So should Buffalo pick him up as half "sorry dude" and half "we need a center in Rochester because Adam is going to play while Hecht is out and maybe more"?

I'd do it for AHL depth.

Seriously though, I really liked him. We don't have room on The Sabres but that'd be cool to have him in

Rochester and we could always bring him up along with Adam if there are injuries. Then he'd have to

clear waivers to be sent back down but we could make him a healthy scratch and whenever somene

needs to be benched, throw him in there. Like I said, I really liked him.

I swear, I would honestly just like Tim Kennedy to sign a life time contract in Europe so I didn't have to see his freaking name ever again.

HE IS A CAREER AHL PLAYER!

He isn't NHL caliber, if he can't crack Florida or NYR's roster what makes you think that Buffalo needs him? I think it just goes to explain how bad we really were the season he was here. In 78 games he could net 26 points...he's not a 30 goal scorer, he's not a play maker, he an undersized, under skilled, player with no real upside.

Yes it's nice he's from Buffalo, but give me a person from Afghanistan that can play and score 50 points, over a home town kid who was lucky to score 26 in a season.

Totally on board with all of this statement.

Well jvaccaro, I did say he'd be center depth in Rochester. I don't expect him to be any more than an injury call up for just about any team in the NHL, and certainly not to make the Sabres.

Teams including Buffalo though, make AHL moves all the time. I don't really care if he comes back to ROCHESTER, but considering the dicky move it was to waive him in the first place, and how Pegula is trying to change the organization's reputation, it seemed like a legit question. I agree, Buffalo doesn't need him, but the topic was about Kennedy going to ROCHESTER to fill Adam's roster spot if he stays in Buffalo.

Re-signing a player waived under strange circumstances by the previous owner doesn't do a damn thing with respect to reputation. Toss all that crap out the window.

Is Tim Kennedy better than any of the existing centers on the Amerk's roster? My answer is no. It's a waste of time and effort to even discuss it. He's a middling AHL player who had the good fortune of a drunk arbitrator.

It could be from lack of sleep, but this struck me as being  worthy as well as new signature material.

Re-signing him would be a little melodramatic, imo, but it would serve the organization's reputation in some peoples' eyes...perhaps among players. Maybe it shouldn't but I think some people would see it for the better.

I haven't paid enough attention to the center talent in Rochester, but we must be pretty good if Kennedy couldn't even crack that roster. I don't care that he's from Buffalo anyway and besides, maybe he's really digging Florida like all the other snow birds.

Help me out here. I never lost a wink of sleep over Kennedy being waived. What bent you out of shape about that? We didn't owe him shit, as far as I'm concerned.

I didn't lose a wink of sleep over losing whatever talent he had. It was widely viewed across the league by both players and front office personnel as a cheap move indicative of a cheap ownership. It just heaped a pile of dirt over the already bad reputation the organization had. Attracting FAs was already very hard, and that move was just going to make it worse. Luckily it doesn't matter anymore, but it was a dicky move none-the-less.

It wasn't really dicky at all.

They negotiate, and can't reach a deal before arbitration. Player exercised his right to arbitration. Team exercised their right to buyout the contract and move on. Just business.

If Tim Kennedy was from Saskatoon or something, nobody would have blinked about it. But everyone got all bonered up about it because he was a good Buffalo boy.

Well, I think you're right, and you're not. From any other team, this probably would have not been much of a deal. But the Sabres under Golisano simply did not buy players out. At least, that was the impression. I can't recall any other arbitration ruling they couldn't walk away from, so there's nothing to compare it to. But it certainly smelled of a big ol' F-U from management/ownership. Doesn't mean I believe that's really how it went down, just how it was perceived. And the fact he was a Buffalo boy hit locals in the heart strings.

Tim Kennedy was not screwed. For shit's sake, he's making MORE from the Sabres' buyout this year than he'll make in the AHL.

The Sabres went as high as they felt his value to them was, telling Kennedy that any arbitration award higher than that would be bought out or walked away from. They did exactly what they said they would do.

They screwed nobody.

I'm not trying to rehash the whole thing. On these boards there was quite the number of pages devoted to the topic, with a great number feeling the move stunk. I read similar stuff on other boards and from other hockey writers outside Buffalo. I don't care where Kennedy is from though, FFS, I didn't grow up in Buffalo and I don't even live in the area anymore. The move ultimately saved a fraction of the 200k difference in contract offers, so it smelled like an "FU" like Hammy said. The team didn't need Kennedy, but they also didn't need to verify a shitty reputation and possibly hurt their already weak chances in the FA market.

I didn't start this topic to rehash or even because I think Buffalo should claim him. It just seemed like an interesting possibility and wondered what other people thought.

I don't think there was any way management wasn’t going to look like assholes in this case. If they agree to honor the arbitrator's ruling, they're bashed for overpaying him and Darcy comes under scrutiny once again. Where they chose to buy him out, rattled the cages of many of the locals because of the whole, "ZOMG!! How could you do this to one of your own!?!?" mindset.

I can understand the concept at first where fans would be pissed at management without thinking of Kennedy's true value; the whole hating for the sake of hating thing but when given what they see as a reason they decide to run with that. What I think really fueled the hate in this case was the penny pinching that had gone on in recent years (’06-07 era) so of course it would bring about misguided hate. But Tom is right, they went into the hearing having told Kennedy's camp what they felt his value was; they decided to be greedy and squeeze the tit harder for more milk and got mule kicked. They knew the consequences but chose to use their teeth anyway.

Lesson learned here folks; don’t bite the nipple that doesn’t want to be bitten.
