I doubt it...he was already under contract with the Sabres organization.
I really doubt the league regulates any staff related contracting.
So he had a contract for the Amerks, then he signed a new, multi-year, one to come up to the Sabres.
At least we know now, when Darcy said in the last press conference that no coaching decision had been made, he was flat out lying.
I think what they're trying to say is that the contract is semantics. Being the coach of the Amerk makes him apart of the Sabres Organization by default. So technically that doesn't prove he was lying. Either they will be signing a completely new contract as head coach or amend the current contract with the new terms. Darcy not opening up the coaching interviews to anyone else proves that he had made the decision before the season ended.... THAT proves he's a liar. This just shows how inept his management skills are. If you have a job opening, even if you have a person in mind, you HAVE to do your due diligence and interview other candidates. just in case someone out there comes in and blows your socks off??? He didn't give anyone a chance.
Why is everyone bitching about this??? well because most don't see him as a true NHL coach, let alone a coach that could take a team to the playoffs. What bugs me is his statement that this team will be a playoff-caliber team next season
. That is complete and utter bullshit or he has absolutely no clue what it take to be in the playoffs.
On another note.... Rolston is great developing young talent, supposedly. The Sabres plan on relying heavily on the draft and filling the ranks of Rochester with young, underdeveloped, immature players. Wouldn't it be logical to have him return and develop this crop of future NHL "stars" (using that term very lightly)????? That is why I think this was an absolutely horrible decision. I want the players on the Sabres to be NHL fucking ready when they hit the ice at the FNC. Now we will have all this immature, underdeveloped talent in Sabres jerseys next season.... AND he said the team is playoff-calibre. What a fucking joke!!! The more I think about it, the more I get pissed off

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.
