Amen, brother. That's why I abandoned MLB many years ago.

I remember during the lockout in '94 or whenever, some guy in the cafeteria at work saying he'd never watch MLB again. I laughed my ass off, because in the grand scheme of things, at that point in time, that stoppage didn't bother me at all. From 1970 on, for 3 decades I absolutely loved MLB, and I still love it for what it was back then. I also still have a great reverence for the MLB history that happened before I was born, and also its history before my father was born, for that matter. MLB was truly the national pastime, and rightly so.

Honestly, MLB is still very much an accurate barometer of where we are in this country, just like it has always been. The only problem is that it's now an ugly, ugly picture. The system has devolved to a point where the HAVES will not only continue to be the HAVES. They will continue to widen the gap between the HAVES and the HAVE NOTS. On an individual level, players aren't in it for the team or the fans any longer, they're completely in it for themselves. They get away with using performance-enhancing drugs, because ethics take a back seat to making money - that is if ethics get any kind of seat at all.

MLB has sold its soul, and I'm done with it, but I still think baseball is a great sport and I always will. I look forward to NCAA ball and even the Little League World Series every year, because nowadays that's where you'll find the heart of the sport.

its fantastic. i guess Ichiro wanted out of Seattle (dont blame him) and the Yankees, i guess, made the best offer of 2 minor leaguers...it was a total steal for NY. the prospects they gave up arent even that good.

the Marlins are more of a joke. they have a fire sale about every 5-7 years of all their good players.

So the Yankees didn't even have to give much up. I don't get how you could get satisfaction about of being a Yankee fan under these conditions. They're like those perfectly healthy kids who pretended they had disabilities to get into the Special Olympics. What does it matter if you win if there was never an even playing field to start with? I'd feel like I was cheating if I were a Yankee fan.

When I was a kid, baseball was the first thing on my mind when I woke up and the last thing I thought about when I fell asleep. My tastes and style have changed a lot since then, but even considering that, it's hard for me to believe how little I care about MLB at this point. They've made a farce of the league through its financial structure and through steroids. They attached their carriage to the homerun above all else and made a mockery of once important numbers. For me it does all go back to the 94 lockout to some extent. I grew up a Jays fan and they had just won two championships. I was living in Montreal and the Expos had the best team they'd maybe ever had. But even without the lockout, I'd feel the same way now. I'd rather watch a regular season Sabres game than game 7 of the World Series, and that's sad.

Don't fall in love with an amp just because it's a tube amp. Similarly don't count out a solid state because it's not a tube. I agree that tube generally sounds better for an electric guitar, but there are plenty of options. Just be sure you get onw powerful enough for the rooms you want to play. If it has a line out that's great and can help, but you never know what it's gonna sound like once it's going through the PA.

As far as specific models, I don't know much. I play bass.

When did the Yankees ever "pretend to be disabled" to get Ichiro?

The thing is, Seattle agreed to the terms of the deal. Trades are never "we're taking this player and giving you this guy and there is nothing you can do about it". Do you really expect the Yankees to say something like "we'll give you our best prospect and a starting pitcher" just because its would be a "fairer deal" for Seattle? No, in every professional sport you always try to get the biggest return you can in trades and every team has the ability to do this. Seattle could of told the Yankees to up the return but they didnt. It isnt the Yankees fault that Seattle sold so low. If Darcy shipped off Kaleta and got one of the Sedins (i know the math doesnt work but run with it) would you get upset that Darcy didnt give Vancouver a fair deal? No, you'd praise Darcy and call the Vancouver GM an idiot.

So why should i feel bad about Seattles GM accepting a terrible deal?

And there isnt one sport where the playing field is even.

I don't mean that the Ichiro deal in particular was shady. All I mean is that it's representative of how they can just get whoever they want. They're like a spoiled rich kid that's never had to know what it's like to go without. And though it's true they've made trades for players like Ichiro, ARod, Clemens, etc., those were actually buy-outs for the other team more that they were trades. They were trades that no other team could make because no other team can just add $20 million in payroll. It's lame. Your Sedins/Kaleta analogy couldn't happen in the NHL because of the salary cap. The Sabres would have to trade away say, Vanek and Pominville to make that happen. But the Yankees can have their cake and eat it too.

I was just messing with that too. Transcribing Science Friday through dictation.

Pretty fun. Will use this at home a lot.

The only thing I don't like so far is you have to click the "Done" button...do you know if here's a voice command for that?

you clearly missed the "i know the math doesnt work but run with it" part of my Sedin/Kaleta example...

The Yankees became successful while playing within the rules and winning numerous World Series. It comes down to the fact that most of the "Yankees can buy whoever" hate comes from people who envious that the Yankees are, in most cases, able to outbid their team or people who should direct their hatred at the MLB for making the rules.

Wondering if you knew anything about solid state amps and why or how I can check to see why it keeps blowing the 4A power fuse in it.

I put a new fuse in and as soon as I turn it on, it fries the fuse.

Cheap and dangerous troubleshooting: Put in 5, 6 or 12 amp fuse.
More expensive yet sane troubleshooting: Buy a multimeter from Radio Shack and find schematics for the amp.

If it blows right away and you're sure you're using the correct fuse I'd guess you have a short somewhere.

The original fuse was a ceramic 4 amp fuse, the glass type. So I bought the regular 4 amp ones from Autozone.

I put a piece of wire in it and it made the amp turn back on at least. I'll have to dig into it more then.

I like that you just bypassed the fuse...good work.
Here's a simple observation though...amperage is only part of the equation when replacing fuses.

The one you had in the amp was probably 120V (house voltage) 4A.
the ones you got a autozone were probably 12V (car voltage) 4A.

That's not a minor difference and would explain them instantly frying ;)

They were both 250V fuses.

The wire I used was to determine that ceramic fuse was indeed blown. I'll probably look into it tomorrow after work. I have heard these particular amps that their electronics aren't the best out there. Hopefully I can get more years out of it, it is at least 12 years old on the amp.
