It's decided - next week, I'm buying a record player and some records.

As soon as I get off my ass and clean up the spare bedroom, I am going to bring my record collection into that room. My Mom just gave me her old Zenith Record Player, which is in good condition. Hell; even the 8-track player works.

And yes; though I haven't been able to play them in years, I still have an 8-track collection somewhere in the basement. No idea if they'll still work though..

I love my Spanish teacher from high school.

He got a Glock 27 and proceeded to share on Facebook.

His classes were awesome. I still remember all the songs we sang, and we talked about awesome things from our childhoods (he's not that much older than my class, as young as it is possible to be and still be teaching us lol) and the Sabres so often in class that it was basically... Yeah.

Somehow learned a lot of Spanish, too.

all weekend at the bar, they kept playing this fucking obnoxious song about 10 million fire flies and shit and leaving earth.. WHAT THE FUCK? THATS NOT EVEN FUCKING MUSIC!

That's where you're wrong dude. Fireflies is an awesome song.

Anyway, it's probably too late to remember this, but on Oprah today is going to be one of the secretaries from my school. Her son died a couple years ago in a car accident because he was texting and now she is always working to get legislation passed about driving while texting.

oh that song is fucking wretched. its all a result of studio manipulation and auto-toned voices and shit. and the writing is of that of a 10 year old. party in the USA has more mind stimulating lyrics.

Hahahaha, I agree. All of that band's songs are like that, too. I don't know what they're called, but a lot of people at my school like them, and I'm just like... "Ummm. I hear you guys playing their music from your laptops all the time, aaaand hate to break it to you, but you could hear one of their songs and be finished with it." EVERY SINGLE SONG IS THE SAME EXACT THING. The melodies hardly vary at all. It's like what on earth, dude. I swear that the singer doesn't even sing. He just talks and then autotunes his voice.

Over break I listened to the radio for the first time since graduating high school... Pop stations, that is. Usually at work they have a classic station playing in the kitchen, music from the '70s to the '90s (minus the last couple years of the '90s which were just stupid musically speaking)... But then over break, my younger coworkers turned on the pop stations a few times, and I was like

Every single song is autotuned and produced to death, holy crap. They all use WAY too much distortion beyond that... Oh my goodness. It's just... WHAT ARE THEY DOING. Enduring music is made with melodies, honest lyrics that actually have something to do with life and mean something, actual vocals... They're stories. It's the same with film, movies. The ones with all the flashy special effects and not much else aren't going to be around even in two years. It's the ones that speak to human nature with simple storylines, the ones that are real, that will stay. Stories, stories, stories. Special effects and musical styles become outdated with time; movies and music that rely purely on them will fade into obscurity within five years.

Plus it's always more, more, more, when if you think about it, the movies and songs and performances that have lasted are stripped down to their bone, as much as they possibly could be. The best movies are about eternal truths that will never go away because human nature never goes away; the best songs are the same; the best and most memorable performances are just the performer on stage, alone, nothing else.

This song is one I had the displeasure of listening to and everything I hate:

You can dance to this song, but so what? That's not enough when everything on current pop stations either sounds like this or hip hop/R&B that is composed purely of cliche, shallow lyrics and autotuned robots and the same sound effects and predictable production on every single one oh my goodness.

I think I'm going to refuse to talk today unless people address me as "Alex, fan of the Eastern Conference Leading Buffalo Sabres."

I'm a humble fan, but it's just a little nice to hear again.

Correct you are. Must be why I just downloaded their 2003 CD Give Up.

I like corny music ;)

I got kicked out of Barnes and Noble for moving all the Bibles to the fiction section.

I've been doing that at my school library and chapters for years. I like the science fiction section next to babylon 5

Hmm, that's more inspired than just the fiction section. Teen lit or humor would be good choices, too.

I don't like that song either, but I like how everyone else likes it. Before Christmas break, someone would randomly sing a line and then you could have three people sing the next lines.
My one guy friend would always sing the line "boys tryna touch my junk" lmao I hope no boys are actually doing that . . .
And my other friend is like "I love this song! It's so not me but I love this song!" She says that it's "not her" because she doesn't party/drink/whatever. Well I don't do that either. Also Lady Gaga wrote a song about thinking about being in bed with a girl when she is actually with a guy. I love that song, does that mean I do that? Nooooo.

Like, it's just weird how people explain themselves.

I found my twin on a different message board.

Quote:
So here's one of my funny quirks. I feel more comfortable in public the more covered I am. I tend to wear coats and gloves, etc... sooner in the year to later in the year than most people do, because I value the abstract comfort in spite of the discomfort of the heat.

I assume this is a manifestation of social anxiety. as I find no discomforting physical sensation from dressing lightly, I just get tense. The more my shape and my skin is apparent, the more nervous I suppose I am. This is to some extents true for almost everyone, hence the discomfort for a lot of women in going out in a tiny bathing suit. But for me, I do think it goes to odd lengths, obfuscating completely socially innocent parts of my body in 68 degree weather. Another example of this is I almost never wear shorts of short sleaved shirts, as they too, make me nervous somehow.

I think I'd wear a mask if that didn't make people so suspicious.

So this is pretty weird, or at least I think it is. Does anyone else have similar feelings? And what do you think of my habit? Unhealthy? Neurotic? How would you rationalize it?

I guess there are broad cultural questions inside my habit to. What does it mean to be seen by someone? Why care?

:romance-romance:

This is why I don't wear shorts, why I went through a phase of wearing sunglasses almost constantly when I was like 11-12, and one of the reasons that my hair is so long.

Of course, this topic was made on a site relating to personality theory, soooo lots of people with my type were like, "OMG ME TOO!" So I have lots of siblings, apparently. They just don't exist irl.

It's kind of like how tragedy is, you know, sad, but it brings people together.

Just on a much smaller, more sarcastic scale. :P
