When I was about 8 my dad introduced me to a game he used to play in college that was text based. It was called shadow dale I think. I thought it was kinda cool but at that point I was playing unreal tournament and the joy rolling to kill goblins on an msdos prompt just didn't seem as fun as launching rockets at people in 3d on giant sky scrapers with almost no gravity.

I was playing a text based game on a Tandy computer in 1984 :o
I think it was called Rogue? I only remember calling in sick to work so I could sit home and play the game for 16 hours

Some things never change.
