If any one plays BF2, I have a question.
What video cards support the platform?
I was looking at a 74 dollar Nvidia card, but if others have recommendations, my son is all ear. (So am I, outside of NHL11 this is the only game I play)

Thanks.

I've played it but I keep my gaming rig pretty well pimped out.
Now which incarnation of BF2 are you talking about?
Original? Bad Company?

For the regular BF2 the requirements are pretty modest since it's not exactly new

Minimum:
Video Card: 128MB DirectX compliant video card, Pixel shader 2.0 and above. (AGP and PCIe only)

Recommended:
Video Card: 256MB DirectX compliant video card, Pixel shader 2.0 and above. (AGP and PCIe only)

You should be able to get into that for WAY less than $100

I kind of had my computer hand built Xcheck, well, sort of.
I walked through Best Buy and pointed out this that and the other.
My vid card fried. The system went down. I reloaded with Windows 7, just need a video card to bring the game back online.

It's the original game.
Saw a card (Nvidia) for 74 bucks, was just wondering if I should go better.

A $75 card that's currently in stores will definitely play BF2...whether you want more is up to you ;)

If you look in the $150-$175 range you could get something that'll be playing new games for a couple years.

Something like http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... =E145-0475

Of course the exact card will depend on your motherboard and power supply capabilities.

I'll pull the tower and monitor out of the boxes this weekend. Its been down for like a year now. I know, I know, its just taken me this long to here it from my sons (and believe me, they are all over me about it lol).

I like that card. But, I want cheap, they'll only be on it for another couple of years. When they go off to college, I get to keep the computer (I make my boys buy there own stuff, never hand them over anything, including their XBOX. I made them take paper routes and save to buy one, sounds shitty I know, but it keeps them in the right frame of mind. They tend to respect things more when they're the ones that earned it).

the big thing is the shaders requirement.. i had a card that technically should have been able to play BF2 without any problem but it didn't have the shader requirement and it wouldn't work at all

Thanks man.
I am pulling the computer out and putting it together today.
I'll post specifically (if I can find the info) what the system is.
I should be able to find it under computer properties even though I uploaded a new OS (windows 7), correct?

the shaders should be on the box the card came in.. otherwise it might be in system properties

If it's a new card, it'll work....don't worry about the specifics.
The Original BF2 was released in 2005...pretty much any card being sold retail right now will handle it.
