What best reflects your opinion of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's civilian trial in NY?
1. He should be tried in a military tribunal. Putting this Islamic terrorist before the world in a celebrity show trial is foolish, naiive and dangerous to our national security. 88%  88%  [ 7 ]
2. This is a great move, because it will really put on trial the illegal and immoral policies of George W. Bush before the entire world! This will be a great opportunity for President Obama to win over the hearts and minds of Muslims everywhere. 13%  13%  [ 1 ]

Free Khalid Sheikh Mohammed!

This slogan may soon become more than just a leftwingnut/islamic extremist mantra in the near future. Truth be told, many less radical observers and legal eagles will be loudly pointing out that if the purpose of this trial being held in a US civilian court is showing off to the world that justice is blindly served in the United States, than how can this man possibly convicted without the American judicial system being nothing more than a kangaroo court rubber stamping a death sentence to appease a blood thirsty populace?

The answer: We can't.

If we were to set a precedent that criminal suspects can be arrested by American authorities in a foreign land without ever being read their Maranda rights, be held for years without formal charges in a torture camp without being granted the right to a speedy trial, get waterboarded hundreds of times for information and confessions, and then effectively revoking the alleged criminal the right to being presumed innocent until proven guilty when the President of the United States publicly declares the accused guilty and facing certain execution in advance of the trial, than exactly what message are we sending to the Islamic world President Obama is reaching out to?

Worse still, what will such a precedent do to our judicial system? How can a court of law rule it is legally permissible to find this man guilty when so many of his fundamental civil rights afforded by our constitution were violated?

As bad as it would be for an Islamic terrorist mastermind to walk free and return to a hero's welcome in Pakistan, would it not be worse to severely discredit our own judicial system before the entire world, and set dangerous legal precedents to our own civil rights?

It seems freeing Khalid Sheikh Mohammed may actually be the lesser of two evils, not just a lunatic fringe mantra, and is the reason that a military tribunal would have been the only plausible way to prosecute this terrorist.

...that's why, in a "damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't" scenario, you pass it off to another (like-minded) party.

Get the Indonesians to try him and execute him - They have no compunction about needing to "groom" their "world image".

Similarly, always get the Mossad to kill some bastard motherfucker - They aren't worried about "looking good" or "being fair" - You leak them the intel and they just get the fucking job done.

Seriously. If one hasn't the moral clarity to do what's just and necessary...one need only offer the opportunity to someone who does. Finito..

Case fucking closed. Have a nice fucking day.

:D
