Presumably for the increase in deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan.

That's the only conclusion I can reach since they gave it to Yasir Arafat.

What a joke that medal has become.
Even White House officials were stunned and don't really know why he won.

EDIT: Wow...the nomination deadline was February 1st. He was nominated after being in office for 11 days!

Damn he's good.

I don't know... I'll have to do some more investigating before I formulate an opinion on this.

But it is a pretty big deal that he's working on reducing the stockpiles of nuclear warheads in Russia and the U.S. by as much as 22%.

When you consider all the damage that could be done with that amount of warheads... it's pretty impressive.

That said, I don't know who else was being considered and what they were being considered for. Just an early thought of mine.

In accordance with my continued efforts to avoid arising the suspicions of the Thought Police, let me just express heartfelt congratulations to our Dear Leader, and say that, following in the esteemed traditions of Yassir Arafat and Jimmy Carter, this award could not have gone to a more deserving man.

I love how even those who gave him the award have acknowledged that he's done nothing.

Then WHY on earth are you giving it to him?!

I don't even. Wow.

Every president for the last 40 years has been "working on that"....
Hell, Reagan had Gorbachev agree to a complete nuclear disarmament in Reykjavik.

Every President has been "Working on" that whole mid-east peace thing too.
So I guess they should all get the Peace Prize....again...just like the man defined by his peaceful nature Yasir Arafat.

I don't know why this crap even bothers me any more. The Nobel peace prize is a joke.

Hasn't it already been agreed upon though?

I'm not trying to play devil's advocate... I'm just trying to see if there's ANY kind of logic to this pick at all.

What, the Russian nuclear thing?
Absolutely not. The Obama administration has said it's ready to offer a reduction of the US arsenal up to 80%....but it hasn't made that offer....and Russia hasn't said they'd do anything.
He pulled the missile shield out of Poland and got nothing in concessions from Russia.

No logic, just a worldwide Obamagasm.

Way to not be Bush, Barack!

Now it might be time to start changing some of his policies you're still following.

So most of the ardent Obama supporters I've run across so far today are pretty much dumbfounded by this...
Do you have any reason to agree with this pick?

Hell, Ghandi was nominated 11 times before he won.

I think that was more to get Russia on his side in negotiations with Iran, which I'd say has been moderately successful.

Russia and China never back us up at the UN when it actually counts....that's why Iran and the DPRK get to act like little bitches all the time while continuing their nuclear programs uninhibited.

But I think Iranian nuclear negotiations are pretty much moot at this point. Most experts agree they'll have a bomb in 6-12 months.

Damn...I have to fact check myself.

Ghandi was only nominated 5...and NEVER WON!

Ghandi. Never. Won.

Well shit, isn't this an upside down world.

go to the 6:45 mark to see what i wanted to show. for it to all make sense, start at 5:30.

that being said. i generally like obama, but this is kind of a wtf moment. another article a read about this said that he won because of the "atmospheric" conditions hes caused...meaning hes made a lot of people feel good. i dunno.

I only read half of the first post but I can tell you're all missing how he won this. WE BOMBED THE MOON! USA! USA! Take that moontonians(?)! Now the Earth can rest in peace knowing we'll never be invaded by moon people. Everyone should tip their hat to the President for that call.

You can blame him for accepting it...which he's already said he's going to do.
