Not disputing that private groups have the right to discriminate.

Just think that it's a dick move when they do, especially when the group is formed of members of a religion that's supposed to be about loving your fellow man and forgiveness and shit.

I agree with it being bullshit, but if I were gay, I don't think a softball league run by baptists would be my first choice.

So if I'm keeping score, we have 1 bigot award and 1 dumbass award to give out for this situation.

Take it up with the Supreme Court. Private organizations are allowed to discriminate.
The gay softball players can join a non-religious league.

You're relentless hostility toward religion Christianity is almost comical.

Relentless? sure. I don't find it comical that public schools teach creationism or that priests fuck little boys and get away with it. But yeah, if you say it's comical to be upset by that then I have to agree with you.

fine, then you better be equally pissed at the public school system which had more child abuse cases than the Church did

Let's see some stats to back that up. And I'll bet the offending teachers weren't moved out of district so as to keep their transgressions secret for a number of years.

The issue is that when sexual abuse charges come up in public schools, the person responsible is persecuted to the fullest extent of the law. When it happens in the church, it's often just swept under the rug.

Well if it was a Baptist church you're thinking of a much different religion. They bang the bible over your head until you submit or die.

The Church followed what was prescribed by psychologists of the time, which was found to be incorrect. The Holy Father recognizes this, and in his Letter to the Catholics of Ireland, he knows that the people within the church acted in error, and he urges the Bishops to correct the wrongs that were done, to prevent this happening in the future.

Quote:
Together with senior officials of the Roman Curia, I listened to what they had to say, both individually and as a group, as they offered an analysis of mistakes made and lessons learned, and a description of the programmes and protocols now in place. Our discussions were frank and constructive. I am confident that, as a result, the bishops will now be in a stronger position to carry forward the work of repairing past injustices and confronting the broader issues associated with the abuse of minors in a way consonant with the demands of justice and the teachings of the Gospel.
...
At the same time, I must also express my conviction that, in order to recover from this grievous wound, the Church in Ireland must first acknowledge before the Lord and before others the serious sins committed against defenceless children. Such an acknowledgement, accompanied by sincere sorrow for the damage caused to these victims and their families, must lead to a concerted effort to ensure the protection of children from similar crimes in the future.

If the Catholic church would just give up on having their priests be un-castrated eunuchs, maybe they would make some progress.

I went to a Lutheran church for 5 years, school for 1, and a Baptist church for 6.

Both religions tell you that you're supposed to love your fellow man or woman, and preach forgiveness. I think that's a pretty common concept amongst everything Christian.

I'm not here to give you an education in what has been going on in the battle between scientists, law makers, educators and intelligent design peddlers. That argument has been long and tiresome and I'm not going to sit here and write a report because you claim it isn't an issue.

I will say though that most here aside from you that have read what I have posted know that first off I don't fancy ANY organized religion and secondly I believe all people should be afforded the freedom to believe whatever the hell they want to as long as they don't force those beliefs on other people. I happen to use Christianity as an example more frequently than others because I wasn't born in India, China, ancient Greece or in some African tribe where other faiths are dominant. "Attacking" religion is pretty strong. Was it when I asked the Christian members advice on blending my divided faith family that was considered attacking (because I was the one that was attacked then)? Was it when I asked everyone's opinion on the tax status for religious organizations? Maybe it was when I said the church which fired that doctor over the approved abortion was fucking retarded? Or maybe a guy who attacks anything left of center like a blood thirsty pitt bull should look in the mirror before he tells someone that their constant anything is comical.

Hell, maybe I should just stop mustering up the two shits it takes to care about your keyboard flexing?

I thought about how funny being asked for a citation on something so well known as creation science being taught in schools was but after I stopped laughing I thought for any that are interested on a brief history of the court battles and what not, a great time line was done by the guys at ReligiousTolerance.org.

Have to agree with the bigot and dumbass awards being handed out to the appropriate side.

And 1980's comment about 99.9% of softball players being lesbians. :P

Fun note, there was a girl on a school baseball team that I've played that said that she dosen't play softball because it is gay.

Squanto, I was just being a smart ass (again), but Baptists are without a doubt more uptight than others. I was actually brought up in a Lutheran school and church, until I got excommunicated anyway (because I just stopped going).

Baptists though...no alcohol?!? Stop right there, I'm going to hell!
