The problem with the US is that Americans can't make up their damn minds about what they want.

First they don't want the government to be involved at all (It's communism! They're encroaching on business's right to do business! Laissez-Faire!) and the next moment they want the government to solve every one of their problems. (The government should have gotten more involved, regulating business! Sanctions!)

Then they hate George Bush and the GOP and blame them for all our problems, and then when Barack Obama and the Dems can't solve all our problems, it is suddenly his fault.

They don't want to pay high taxes but they want the government to magically find money to pay for everything. No wonder prices are rising and the value of the American dollar is diminished.

Terrible...

the problem is capitalism. the public's voice has been fading for decades, and the interest of the public has been invested into private enterprises with our own tax dollars. somehow, that causes costs to increase for us and there are piles of money in investments and spa retreats around the world.

conservatives complain that obama is socialist, but his actual problem is that he isn't socialist enough.

yeah, that's funny. what's even funnier is the existence of a tea party that cites an erratic government going overboard with spending and poor legislation when they should be pointing the finger at our political system's failure to operate independently of the businesses that have been usurping that ability from the get-go. perhaps there would be no reason to complain about taxes if deregulation hadn't allowed for public funds from being used to appease private interests. it doesn't matter where the legislation came from, because this sort of subverting of the public's will existed since the late 1800s with the pinkertons, and i'm sure even before then.

i support the iww and a progressive tax system, so i guess i should be reduced to mockery and ridicule.

I think this is a perfect time to remind everyone (before they get all tifty) "This is a Buffalo Sabres message board...on the internet..."

(back to my point) Furthermore...I also think the problem with America is that too many American voters are just plain dumb.

I was listening to MPR once before the '08 election and they asked some lady why she was going to vote for McCain, to which she replied "Well I'm not gonna vote for Obama cuz he's a Muslim." When further asked why she thought that, she said, " Well, that man over there told me he was, so that's why I believe it." (it was some religious leader of some sorts...I can't remember the particulars)

Seriously? You can't name one of his policies or campaign promises that you disagree on...there must be something. Half of our country men and women voted for Obama because he is black and it would be like a novelty and the other half didn't vote for him because they believe he's a Muslim. Nothing about both candidates policies, beliefs or real truths about their lives.

Again, terrible

that actually reminds me of this woman who i overheard on the train one night talking about how obama shouldn't be president if he's not christian, that he's a muslim, and his interests aren't the same as the rest of america. i mostly paid attention because of all of the wal-mart shopping bags i saw around her, and i knew what she had to say must be the most relevant thing anyone could have ever said.

I wasn't mocking you, I'm just amused by your idealism.
Stick with it as long as you can.
You'll either give up, get arrested or go crazy.

i'm 25. i've given up. i'm not trying to change anything, but i'll continue to support what i feel contributes in a positive manner to everything i want to exist.

i don't think striking back against the bourgeoisie is any different than taxing those who have lower incomes at an equal or higher rate. misplaced aggression is generally worse than economic or political repression, in my mind, as it only justifies it even further. everyone loves pissing other people off at some point, but it never really does anything.
