I can't believe anyone would want to steal the sign, it's stupid and I hope they find it. It may be a famous sign and all, but like the article said, it brings you back to a hatred of things of what they did. |

That sign was just one more reminder of the past...not exactly a bad thing to be stolen. |

On one hand, I'd love to see the camps dismantled and tore up out of anger for what the Germans did. On the other hand, so many families lost their loved ones there, and many of them can't find peace until they visit these places. Also, the camps serve as proof, and as a reminder, that the actions of the Germans were beyond unacceptable. |

I for one think of them as being a museum and being a graveyard for millions of people. Of course what they did were terrible but it reminds you how delicate a human life is and it reminds us of something we never want to see again. The German's donated money to keep the camp running as a museum anyways. |

I suppose, but to me, it's almost surreal anyways. I'm probably never going to visit there, but it doesn't mean I don't know what happened. I suppose after reading your post PSP, I'm in a similar boat, I agree that they have their historical value. |

I say Germans because the extent of the damage of World War II went far beyond the Holocaust. |

well yes, but it was the nazi party leader who rallied the troops (no pun) and created all that havoc. many many germans, and even nazis were very against what was happening, but, did it out of fear for their own well-being. i just dont think its wise to encapsulate all germans in that same glass. ya know? |

Polish police have found the sign, cut up into three pieces. They have five men in custody. As to painting all Germans with the Nazi brush, I don't get too worried about the political sensitivity of that. Most Germans did support the Nazis. There was little to no domestic dissent during the war. Certainly everyday Germans noticed that their neighbors were disappearing. Nazism was not a small political group holding an unwilling population captive. It had broad German appeal. |

The investigating police declined to speak to the motive until they have a presser tomorrow. |

Nazism was not a small political group holding an unwilling population captive. It had broad German appeal. It's not that there was anything better to be then a Nazi during the 30's and 40's in Germany. Say all the bad things they did, and yes they were terrible, but Germany was a very prosperous country before the war, they were the first to get out of a depression, yes what the SS and Hitler did was an atrocious act out against humanity the Nazi party made Germany into something then. What German didn't want the prosperity of being a Nazi really? The holocaust was still a huge secret anyways, the camps were away from civilians and hardly anyone knew about them, Jews might have been disappearing and relocated, but not many German Citizens really knew about the cruel things against the Jews. We didn't find the camps until Russians stumbled upon them. But with the propaganda going on then, many hated the Jews and blamed them, you have a motivational speaker and one who could rally the masses and his whole political party hated the Jews, the German people started to turn into that mindset. Also glad they found the sign, leave those past images alone and don't resurrect them. |
