Remember Richard Reid, the so-called "shoe bomber?" Eight years ago he tried to blow up a Paris-Miami flight. At the time President George W. Bush was on vacation. He didn't comment on the attempted terrorist attack for six days. The reaction from the loyal Democratic opposition? Nothing. From the supposedly liberal media? Nothing. Now fast forward eight years to a similar incident. Omar Abdulmutallab attempted to blow up an Amsterdam-to-Detroit flight. He was foiled by the passangers, just like eight years earlier. Both incidents revealed flaws in our airline security. Both incidents occured near Christmas and during both the president was on vacation. The difference? The Republicans have been withering in their attacks on President Obama, using this incident to fire up their political base. The media has gone along with the attacks, apparently no longer fearful that they will be seen as unpatriotic for attacking a sitting president who must deal with terrorism and national security issues. What has changed? Nothing, except we see the stark reality, once again, that the Republican Party cares more about its ideology and its political gamesmenship than it does about our country. The GOP are always the first one to play the patriotism card when it comes to shutting down dissent, but throws patriotism out the window when it comes to attacking Democrats. Why? Because the Republican Party does not recognize Democrats and liberals as "real" Americans. I do not believe that the Republican-conservative leadership, and their wacko, wingnut base, believe in American style democracy. They believe in a one party theocracy, and anything they say and do to destroy their political opposition is acceptible. |

Should have let the south secede. Then we'd have one liberal country and one conservative country and we could figure out once and for all which is better. |

Where do you see this criticism Zilla? I have seen a lot of folks wondering aloud if Janet (the system worked perfectly) Nepalotano is up to the job with which she's been charged. What I haven't seen is a direct criticism of Obama over this issue...Well besides the tirade from Dick Cheney, but that's just how he rolls. Your assertion that liberals didn't do anything when there were terrorist attempts under Bush is also wrong. I heard endless mocking of Tom Ridge and his terror color wheel. |

This won't clear up until we say to hell with parties and just elect people we believe in... Or in other words NEVER. |

Let's just criticize the President, I mean, if he were worth his weight, he would have been on that flight and stopped the bomber himself, no? He's fucked up some reactions in the past...this one took more than a day of investigation to get all the facts. That being said - Janet ain't it. |
