Ok, so I'll start by saying that I'm straight, never seen a penis from "that" angle, and never intend to.

That being said, I'm sick and fuckin tired of hearing about "should gay marriage be legal". The lawyers now are defining marriage as a "pro-child institution"... when the fuck was it a pre/post-requisite that when you got married you had to have children?! And what's stopping them from adopting? Hell, even single people adopt.

40 years ago a similar group of people that had been looked down upon fought for "equal rights". How is this ANY different?! This is NOT a nation founded on religion, so take your Bible thumping antics elsewhere.

Hey; it's no real victory for the gay segment when it is passed. It only allows for them to make the same mistakes in relationships that the heterosexual community make over 50% of the time!

This type of thing will only serve as a boom to divorce attorneys! ;)

Calm down.

Marriage, for better, or worse in my opinion, is regulated and controlled by the state because it is a legal contract to which many laws apply.
Those laws are friggin old so they don't consider things like a guy wanting to wear a dress and marry his best buddy.
It takes a long time to change those laws.

No one crusaded for that, it is what it is.

Since public opinion is against gay marriage (if you can't pass that in California you can't pass it anywhere) you're going to have to wait for the courts to reverse those laws.

The real answer here is civil unions for all and marriage is only a religious term.
End of story.

I'll let you have your point, but I'll ask you why it HAS to be a man and woman? Why is it defined as such?

"Because it's wrong" isn't a viable answer, that's an opinion.

I deal in facts and absolutes. It's a fact that a man can love a woman, a woman can love a man, a man can love a man, and a woman can love a woman. It's a fact that they can live their entire lives together and be happy.

You can argue that the Bible says it's wrong, but then you're arguing to the beat of a 2000 year old drum. 2000 years ago, people were possessions, the world was flat, and the sun revolved around the Earth. If you were to go back in time and flick a lighter, shoot a handgun, or play music from an iPod, you'd probably be killed as a heretic or worshipped as a God.

I'm not trying to cut you down, not at all. I know many people that are disgusted to the point of physical reaction at the thought of two men or two women getting married. I'm just trying to get to the deep down "why" they view it as wrong.

Why can't marriage be between a lion and a gazelle?
Why not between a shark and a seal?
Why not between a monkey and a human women? Hell, why not between a female monkey and a female human?

The point is, its none of anyones business who you choose to spend your life with as a partner.
I am not pro or anti homosexual or heterosexual. Its just none of my business.

I only ask one thing, if your a lesbian, would you please send me pics of you and your partner in intimate moments, please, bring some joy to my world :)

I'll argue from the other angle....

Here in California, Civil unions grant 100% of the rights to same sex couples as are afforded in traditional marriage.

They're not arguing for "rights", they're arguing to simply use the term "marriage".

If they're already equal under the law, how is denying the use of the word marriage discriminatory?

One of my gay friends thinks it's damn stupid. Of course he's told me he'd never want to get married anyway.

xcheck - I understand that argument, and I really don't see the big deal with allowing them to use the word....they're *almost* synonymous.

Well that why I get put off when gay marriage proponents start invoking the civil rights movement in their arguments.
We don't make gays use separate bathrooms and schools...we're not turning the fire hoses and attack dogs on them.
They have to say "civil partner" instead of "husband". Oh the horror.

As long as the rights are the same for same sex couples as for heterosexual couples, call it whatever you want.

Look... I don't want to offend anybody, and I couldn't give a damn about the religion side of things.

I don't have a problem with the gay community. I'm not homophobic. I don't have any gay friends, but I know some gay people that I'm friendly with and run into at parties and what not all the time, and I have no problem being around them.

But marriage is something that I feel should be left alone.

I'll be the first to admit that my opinion on this subject is just that; an opinion, with not much factual evidence to back it up.

But when dealing with something that is driven entirely by emotion such as marriage, I don't think it's possible to make it cut and dry, right or wrong, no matter how long you discuss it.

I'm all for gay couples having civil rights and being eligible for the same governmental support given to couples of the opposite sex through a marriage license, but not under the curtain of an actual marriage.

I'll call it stubborn traditionalism. I see marriage as the union of man and woman for life. Not a man and a man, or a woman and a woman.

Don't step on our toes. Go get your own term for a civil union. Marriage is currently being used by opposite sex couples.

Xcheck, what I'm hearing from you sounds a lot like the other side's argument too. You both are arguing over essentially a word, and want to use it to your own ends. I've always thought the argument over "marriage" was silly and pointless and that the importance that many people attach to the word marriage in the gay community was overblown. But you're doing the same thing by trying to exclude a gay couple from using the word. If you truly don't care, then so what? A marriage is about a relationship and a commitment, and if you think that a gay couple being married somehow takes away from that...well, I just don't get it. It's not about their choices, it's about your choices and your marriage.

Also, The fact that you need to make a distinction between your marriage and a gay marriage indicates to me that you see your own marriage as somehow more legitimate than theirs. Comments like "if two guys can get married, why not a guy and an elephant?" also convey that sense of the illegitimacy of homosexual relationships, and I've heard you make such comments. From where I stand, it's hard for you to make statements like you have "no problem with the gay community" when you couple them with statements like yours on gay marriage.

I know this isn't an opinion thread, and seeing as I'm pro-gay marriage, I really don't have any additional points to add to what NY has already said.

I've just come to say that I would love to see a march with the theme song from Married with Children booming all around. Love and marriage, love and marriage, go together like a horse and carriage... I think it would totally melt all opposing views in a giant pool of Frank.
