Hillary Clinton came very close to being president and was seen, at one time, as a politically divisive figure (the common wisdom was that Republicans hated her). However, a recent poll of "avid news watchers" found that the Secretary of State has some pretty strong aproval numbers (75% approval over all), even among Republicans, 57% of whom approve of the job she is doing.

Certainly she has been an active Secretary of State, initiating nuclear disarmament talks with Russia, challenging Iran, calling China to task about the Internet, and even being credited with saving a signing agreement between Turkey and Armenia. It seems like she is always on the road. She also has pull within the Oval Office. Hillary won out against Vice President Biden in convincing Obama to send more troops to Afghanistan. There is even something called the "Hillary Effect." More countries have sent a woman ambassador to Washington (25) than ever before in history, it is thought because our own chief diplomat is a woman.

How do you evaluate her job as Secretary of State thus far?

I won't necessarily say she sucks, but I don't like her in the position. It just doesn't seem to fit her. Maybe Palin would have been better(seeing she ALMOST became presodint too). Haha. I'll tell ya what, some of these moves the Republicans have made over the last 10 years have made devaluing them shooting fish in a barrel.

According to her hubby, she didn't suck, that, and the fact she wasn't into Cigar kink is apparantly what led Monica to take up the "Make the President Smile" banner. :D

I guess women in authority will always have to deal with the issue of sexism before everything else.

I think Clinton has done an outstanding job as Secretary of State. She was known (by Democrats and Republicans) as a Senator who did her homework and was willing to work with people to achieve an end, even if those people were bitter enemies. She has the perfect temperment for this job. I don't think she could have gotten health care reform through the Congress if she had been elected president, but she has the right grit, determination, and strength to deal with foreign leaders. Like her husband, she is also wicked smart.

Not to rain on your parade here Zilla, but name one thing Hillary did for the state of New York that was significant in her time as Senator here.
Also, bare in mind, the only reason she came in to take the Senator's position is it was a stepping stone to the presidential run she was planning.
Understand this, when you use a legislative position in this manner, it IS NOT representing your constituents, it is merely political plays that do nothing for the people both short term as well as long term. She is nothing less than a life time political player that has NO significant achievements to date, including her time as Sec. of State at the Federal level.

This is the truth of the matter, no matter how others attempt to slice it and dice it. It is what it is.

What did Senator Clinton do for New York? Why, you could find that out yourself, slesh, if you bothered to look into her record before you made up your mind about her.

-Sen. Clinton played a key role in securing $21.4 billion in funding for the World Trade Center site's redevelopment.
-She was a leader in investigating the health problems faced by the 9/11 first responders (she eventually won endorsement of New York City's Uniformed Fire Officers Association and the Uniformed Firefighters Association for her 2006 re-election bid, even though they boo'd her five years earlier).
-Senator Clinton convinced the information technology firm Tata Consultancy Services to open an office in Buffalo, New York in 2003.
-In 2005, Clinton and Republican Senator Lindsey Graham cosponsored the American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition, which provides incentives and rewards for completely domestic American manufacturing companies.
-She cosponsored the 21st Century Nanotechnology Research and Development Act, which encourages research and development in the field of nanotechnology.

Senator Clinton was instrumental in key national legislation, as well, but you only asked for "one thing she did for New York," so I'll stick with this sample.

She had an approval rating among New Yorkers of 74%, including over half of Republicans. You are right about one thing, though. The truth is the truth.

She's doing a better job than Barack.
No where near historic or even notable at this point, but she hasn't screwed up.
I'd actually rather she were President....and coming from me, that's quite an admission.

Ok, so, I hate doing this, but let me start tearing it apart, piece by piece.
1. WTC redevelopment and the subsequent health concerns of the respnders since whe was not a key player initially, she jumped on board afterwards. In point of fact it was FWC out of Albmny, in conjection with the previous governer of the state initiated the documentation for the Federal Money and I stood next to G. Maziarz and Sheldon when it was introduced, the conversations were clearly that Hillary joined on after the fact, not before. And this was for both, not 1 or the other.
2. Tata Con. Serv. wasn't convinced by Hillary, they were however, convinced by the , and I can be clear enough here, by the "INCENTIVE" package that was proposed by Higgins, not Clinton, although, I will concede she added to the package from the federal level she merely stood as the face of thhat one once again.
3. Now the MTAC I will give credit for, once again, however, it has no, none, 0, zero, descernible affect regionally here in WNY, It does however, provide for limiting funding in the downstate corridor. Not representing the entire state in my opinion. The overseas manufacturers actually lowered their base prices by .021% following its inception, thereby further undercutting domestic manufacturing. This was a piece of paper, nothing more, it does nothing for fair trade policies.

I want you to do me a favor, and yourself for that matter. Go look up the growth rate for her time as a U.S. Senator for New York in 3 sectors, manufacturing, commercial, residential. Then come back and tell me what numbers you found. you could use State figures and DOL figures as well.
