I just got a letter today about a very old trading account I have that has $17 in it. The bank said if I didn't contact them within a year they were going to deem the account abandoned and at that point the money would be transferred to the state of California.

Normally, I wouldn't make the effort, but now I will, you not even getting $17 more from me to waste.

totally agree on both points and the fact that "they" don't see us being the next Greece in probably under 10 years is simply baffling .... and yes the ad is twisted... but there is a reason the IRS is building a new HUGE building in Chicago ... they are going to be hiring and they are going to need to find money to pay those bills.... and its going to come from us, some how some way... we're screwed..... plain and simple.... and not enough people see it....

I just don't understand. You're given a budget, or you can at least forecast how much tax revenue you're going to make. Divy it up, and live within those means. Debt isn't necessary; cuts are. It's going to hurt, initially.

Uh..yeah the message is delivered in a creepy way, but you're complaining that the gov cares that people arent paying their taxes? That's what it's about after all...what exactly is the problem? In fact they're showing you a convenient way to pay and forgiving penalties. I'm not saying they shouldnt be fiscally responsible, but people are also supposed to pay their taxes.
