This just in: GM is bankrupt. They've also sold Saab, Hummer and are killing Pontiac. I'm so glad we gave them billions of dollars and turned the company over to the UAW...it's much better this way. //just die GM...die now. |

Give billions to an inept company, which cannot stay out of the red, to keep them out of the red....typical government ineptness......given by a government which cannot stay out of the red...now bankrupt and owned by the same inept government...........I say, give all that money to tax paying citizens...we would pay off our houses (the banks are in the black), we would by new cars (the car companies are in the black) and we would pay for more insurance (insurance companies are in the black), we would pay more taxes (the government is in the black), and we would have enough extra to spend on local businesses (they are in the black)....problem solved....... Cheers! |

They announced that months ago they were stopping production on all Pontiac's for the 2010 fiscal year. |

Everyone in the region is hanging on and praying - Hanging on to that skanky girlfriend who's fucked everyone and has canker sores on her lip - And even though she says she loves you, and you're her man, she gives you a weary, semi-toothless smile as her pimp picks her up, to get her working for the night. But, no one has the guts to admit that they're getting fucked over - matter of fact, they've been fucked over for so long that even the smallest crumbs from this whore's table are used to justify keeping her on as "your one and only". Good-bye, General Motors. You big whore. Perhaps Saturn can now enjoy a prosperity outside the shadow of this billionaire-welfare corporation. |

If GM (and subsequently detroit) died, would we really be that worse off? It would be akin to the steel mills moving out of Buffalo. |

What NYI said. Cry me a river...where was the bailout for the rest of the rust belt? Where was the bailout for Bethlahem Steel? Sucks for you, but you're not alone or the first by a longshot. |

and there is a good chance (im not up to date on my buffalo history) that had the steel mills closed in todays times and economic crisis, there would have been a bail out. the whole rust belt is built on factories and manual labor of sorts, but its clear that many of these cities have moved on (some have flourished) because the manufacturing jobs are a percentage of the economy. not so here, auto workers ARE the economy. to let hundreds of thousands of people go down the tube directly, and millions more indirectly, because of a few unnoticable bucks out of your pockets is ridiculious. the reason why GM gets a bailout, is because of the sheer massiveness of the whole operation. yeah, steel mills closing is huge for a local city, but they are not a fraction the size of GM, which is still one of the largest companies in the world. it is, and should be, in the governments best interests to see to it these massive companies that sustain so many people, live on to fight another day. and, buffalos death can not be attributed to the closing of steel mills, rather, the erie canal becoming obsolete due to the st lawerence opening up, if im not mistaken. |

Do you honestly believe the money given to GM will "save" the company? You have to remember the American people were told that bailout money was necessary for GM and Chrysler to avoid bankruptcy. So the original intent of the bailout has already failed. Sorry, it's just prolonging a certain death. If Michigan can't re-invent itself, like most of the north-east already has had to, then you're doomed. But that's not on the Federal government, it's on Michigan. Why is Ford ok? sorry, screw GM. Bad companies need to die. EDIT: and don't get me wrong, I love Michigan. 1/2 of my family is from Bay City and Ann Arbor. I've spent months of time in Michigan, so I'm not just hating on your state or an industry. |

i know your not. and yes, michigan does need to re-invent itself (they need to utilize the west coast on lake michigan for resorts and such) but if we can prolong the death of GM, or even maybe see if something becomes its savoir, it can be concieved and not rushed (see flints autoworld for reference of a rushed idea that was doomed because of poor planning) |

Unless I am reading the date wrong from the posts, I am very confused. Where have you guys all been? Gm announced they were only going forward with Buick, Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac quite a long time ago. Hummer, Saturn, Saab, Pontiac, etc... were all being phased out. They made that announcement earlier this year. But the Saturn thing, that's no surprise. Gm announced they were starting to phase out Saturn about 2 years ago. Cutting the dead weight. It is better for GM. Now, besides maybe the Aveo, GM lacks a "bad" model. And the elite vehicles from the phased out companies will still remain. The pontiac Vibe, The pontiac G8, etc... The other elite vehicles are already rebadged. This wasn't a "gm is dying article". This was a "gm is doing better than they've been doing the past 2 years" article. Just cutting the fat. |

Read the article. Saturn was supposed to be acquired by Penske, now they're just being shut down. Not that it bothers me, they never were great cars and GM had too many platforms to be sustainable for much longer. |
