http://www.pe.com/localnews/stories/PE_ ... d468a.html Quote: When hired, employees signed a "statement of faith" that summarizes Crossroads' beliefs. Several fired employees said they saw nothing in the statement they disagreed with. But Crossroads believes that the employees "weren't living out" the statement, Booher said. Here come the thought police... |

You know what though these fuckin half-tards deserve each other. If you signed up to teach at a school like that, you had to KNOW there was some serious crazy going on and can't act surprised when the crazy comes out..... |

Ugh. Makes normal people with religious beliefs seem like nutcases. |

Did the employees willingly sign that contract? Did they knowingly enter the employ of a religious institution? Were they active members of a different religious institution? Is the school a private employer? Tough shit. You know why I don't work for a religious school? Because they would fire my heathen ass. |

Did they sign employment contracts, or just 'Statements of Faith'? I think that could be an important distinction in how it plays out. Past that, I kinda agree with 'tough shit'. The school is being pretty dickheaded about it, considering that they ignored they own rules for years, and all of a sudden decided to enforce those rules with little notice. That's my biggest problem. If these teachers being Catholic was such a big problem now, why wasn't it a problem when this church first took over the school? Regardless, more evidence for me about why I wish religion would stay the fuck out of the education business. "What did we learn today kids? Our religion is right, their religion is wrong. We all believe in the same God, but they do it differently, so they're going to hell. Now let's do some math, and after lunch we're going to ignore scientific study and learn about the 6000 year old Earth!!" |

I know several people who went to Catholic high school and they're quite smart, non-catholic and non-fucked up individuals. I think religious instruction was less than probably 5% of the curriculum. |

Just so I'm clear, we're not bashing anyone who believes God in this thread? |

I think religious instruction was less than probably 5% of the curriculum. My experience in a Lutheran school was much different. They went out of their way to repeatedly insult and belittle any science that wasn't in accordance with creationism. This bothered me because I've always been interested in science, and asked questions in class on more than one occasion that were honest questions, but earned me trips to the principal's office. In one of our books, sections on evolution were ripped out. Parts of the earth science / geology sections were edited with black marker to get rid of anything that suggested the Earth was older than they said it was. In history classes, I distinctly remember comments made about God punishing the British for mistreating their colonists as a significant reason the United States came into being. I know not all schools are like that, but that flavors my impressions of them. |

They paid extra for those shenanigans. I have absolutely no problem with it. |

The premise of religious schools i am in favour of, which i dont think is surprising Now, tearing out evolution sections I disagree with. During Religion classes, presenting that (im using Catholicism because its easier for me) the Catholic Church is the One true, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church and that She does not teach in error is what should be done, and the teachings of the Church should be taught exactly, even if it offends people(such as homosexuals acts being sinful) You can also blast evolution all you want, during the proper time and place. Even going so far as putting in "Scientists believe that the Earth was made X million years ago, ..., but we do not accept" it is appropriate as well, but it still should be taught also, the only problem with the firings i have is that one woman taugh there 14 years, no problem, and now they decide to fire her. OTher then that, its fully within in their rights as a private school |
