Rather conflicted about this (not that I actually give a shit, more of an intellectual conflict)

http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/08/20/ahmed.quran.burning/index.html?hpt=C2

on one hand: Fuck muslim sensitivity, get over yourselves. You're willing to kill people over showing muhammed on television or newsprint, to kill over any suggestion of insulting your prophet. That is seriously fucked, and goes entirely against the 'peace' most of your bretheren say is the true message of the Quran.

On the other hand: Jesus christ, I did not think christians in this country could be any more retarded/bigoted/just plain fucking backwards...and then all of a sudden I see a story about a massive book-burning initiated by 'Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center'...yeah, nice 'outreach' fuckface. I can only assume the message here is "My prophet can beat up YOUR prophet". Utterly redonkulous.

Doesn't that apply to ALL the religious fundamentalists out there in the world? And not all Muslims are extremists like the American stereotype has portrayed them. The fact that there are people in this country organizing a "Burn a Quran Day" confirms that. Muslim sensitivity? In this country? HAH.

I'm all for Burn A Quran Day.

I'm also in favor of Burn A Bible Day, Burn A Torah Day, Burn A Book Of Mormon Day, and Burn Any Other Damn Religious Texts I Can't Think Of Day.

To hell with what this pastor who's organizing it thinks (re: Muslim as a monolithic threat), I'm all for standing up against every religion.

If a Middle Eastern country had 'Burn a Bible' day, the religious right would be screaming for us to invade them.

As a country, I hope that someday we're better than this.

Amen to this. (pun intended) When I lived in Buffalo I was a semi-intelligent slacker, but whenever I come back to Florida, I'm one of the smartest, hardest working people around.

i think what these people are doing is somewhat retroactive. it almost seems like the slap in the face the people up in arms at ground zero were asking for.

by burning the quran, they are enraging muslims, causing anti-american sentiments, in their mind, to be justified by any means. consequently, the act not only helps to validate (in some sick way) the attacks of september 11, but serves as a vicious reminder to other americans that our peers are also our greatest enemies, not just those extremists in the middle east.

look at the record of intolerance that certain european countries have for muslims and consider the terrorism that occurs there. i'm not trying to condone acts of terrorism, but respect is a two-way street.

I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what you were talking about, it sounded so familiar, I finally figured it out (without asking google)...and I believe this is the very first firefly reference i've ever heard. Color me impressed.
