Quick question for you libertarians out there.

How do you feel about the current situation with the OWS protesters, particularly incidents like what happened on the UC davis campus. Seems to me those people were deprived of their liberty by being sprayed in the fucking face for simply sitting there.

I don't like it. At all.

I like the OWS protesters. Why do so many citizens not care about the free speech, the right to protest. ?!?!? it's a shame for the old (not very good) democracy - USA. 100 years ago your system was quite good (relatively), but now .....

Let me clarify. I don't have an issue with OWS, other than there are a lot of people there promoting socialistic ideas.

What I don't like is the police treatment of these protestors, and their violations of our right to assembly.

That's exactly what I was talking about Adam, I figured you guys wouldnt agree with OWS in general...but would of course support their right to peacefully assemble without being attacked by the police, in what is clearly an inappropriate escalation of the situation.

It's his manner of presentation, and his history of getting away with talking shit about the US, and being hyper-sensitive about europe. I think if he wants to engage in these discussions, that double standard needs to GTFO.

I don't think the police are interfering with the right to assembly; when does an "assembly" end though? Does it last an hour? 8 hours? Days?

These become temporary living conditions, and that's not sanitary or safe, and doesn't fall within the purview of the "right to assemble".

the leck of free speech and other important civil rights is a fact. (in the USA)
it's just what it look like. your goverment has more control over the citizens than governments of most other western countries.

unsanitary, unsafe, and temporary living are all ambiguous terms. the fact that you think any of those possibly supersede one of the original rights in the constitution is batshit crazy in my head.

It is indefinite. That's the point of our right to assembly laws. It's designed to leverage our government through peaceful protesting.

When the going gets rough in terms of time and situational issues, they're not supposed to clear us out; they're supposed to negotiate with these people and find out what it is they can do to satisfy them.

unfortunately there are always chaots(choose another word for it) that use such demonstrions as a stage for their insanity and act disrespectfully.
but the police (and the goverment) overreact to them and look for reasons to stop OWS at all.
