If you are able to vote in the GOP primary in your state, who are you voting for (poll allows you to change your vote over time)? This is a poll mostly for registered Republicans, but some states allow for open primaries. States with an open presidential primary:

* Alabama
* Arizona (Semi-closed, with primaries open only to unaffiliated or unrepresented voters, except for the Libertarian primary.)
* Arkansas
* Georgia
* Hawaii (Open primary for state, local, and congressional races; caucus system for presidential races.)
* Idaho
* Indiana
* Massachusetts (All races' primaries open for "unenrolled"/unaffiliated voters only)
* Michigan
* Minnesota
* Mississippi
* Missouri
* New Hampshire
* North Dakota
* South Carolina
* Tennessee
* Texas
* Vermont
* Virginia
* Wisconsin

Meh, Romney seems the least insane...the only thing I REALLY dont like is that he's campaigning to INCREASE military spending, which seems so absurd at the moment. But, he seems like the lesser of many evils at this point.

(Not that I'd vote for any of these republicans against Obama)

Why Obama? Because of the wonderful job he's done so far? His track record of keeping his word and success? Maybe you've got "hope" too, but I'll never vote for someone whose key word is about as convicing as "prayer".

If you voted for him last time, you already proved you're not racist...you don't have to do it again.

(looking around)

You talking to me dude? Perhaps i'm misinterpreting your tone, but you're being a real twat lately when you talk to me, why dont you cool that shit.

This is also an example of your excellent reading comprehension. Please quote where I said I was voting for Obama. Also, direct your attention to where I mention "I'd not vote for any of those republicans against Obama". There is a difference.

That's what I'm referring to. I prefaced my statement with an "if".

Yeah, I'm being a twat, but you're pretty narrow-minded in a lot of your posts. Romney is a cunt, a politician first, American second. Those need to be reversed, IMO.

I don't understand how you would make a statement saying you'd rather vote for Obama than *any* of the republican candidates. That irked me. Sorry.

Fine, mr "authority on what people should think"...who are you voting for in this great pool of patriotic GOP candidates? Who's the most "american"...and least of a politician? Cain?

I've not decided if i'll vote at all this time around. I'm disappointed in Obama, in the fact that, politically speaking he's brought a knife to a gunfight. But these republicans are absurd both in fiscal and social policies, and I cannot see myself voting for a single one of them. So no, technically speaking, I could not see myself voting for any of them over Obama.

and you know what else...it doesnt matter if you 'understand' why I would say something, theres no reason to be an asshole about it, you could just TALK to me ya know.

who the fuck else are we americans supposed to vote for? the GOP has no serious candidates that arnt bat shit crazy, and obama has proven to be a pretty lousy president so far. obama is the lesser of two evils, and thus, sadly, has my vote again. rather vote for hillary. but here we are.

If I were a Republican I would have a tough time voting in these primaries. I like Newt and his policy experience, but the guys comes with so much baggage. I like Cain, but he's a foreign policy novice (but really, how much foreign policy experience do Governors, or half-term Senators, have?). His tax plan has its positives and negatives. Romney is a slimy politician, through and through. Perry's stance on imigration bothers me, and he's imploded since his early prominence.

No great options. But I still like any of them over Obama. If that's who the Democrats stick with (hardly likely we'll get a Democrat challenger) then I see my vote going to the (R) on the ballot.

The "crazy" talk and mentality doesn't help anything either. Whether it's you or an entire voting base, extreme rhetoric shuts down detailed conversation, and only incites the other group/party/side. It gets nowhere. We deserve what we get if people can't get past talking points and discuss issues based on merits and details instead of political ideologies.

NY...let me say one more thing about this before we escalate any further.

You said i'm being narrow minded, well...that is not something that I want to be. I dont FEEL like i'm being narrow minded, but we arent always aware of when we are being that way. SO, if you really feel that way I'd actually, literally appreciate you explaining to me WHY you think that, and also what your viewpoint is. Seriously. I love forums like this because we get to exchange ideas and viewpoints...but it's so fucked because there is no vocal inflection or facial expression to ameliorate what might come off as harsh words. So, keep that in mind, and talk to me like a friend, I'll do the same for you. You're not a twat, and I generally dont think i'm narrow minded, but i'm usually down to hear other peoples viewpoints and opinions, I mean, why else are any of us here?

Excellent point. I've definitely fallen into the lazy trap of encapsulating my distaste for the stances of the republican candidates with words like 'crazy'...when that is clearly only polarizing the two sides even more. Although...it's hard to remain rational and calm on either side, if the other is busy painting you as a nutjob. Kind of a self fulfilling prophecy I guess.

Yes it's dividing, but there doesn't seem to be much in our culture lately that brings anyone together. There's no easy conflicts like WWII, the Cold War, or even 9-11 to bring people together against a common enemy. When there's no common enemy and things are going poorly, people have to look at each other for the drama. Perhaps a well timed alien invasion could bring humans together. Where's Orson Welles when you need him?

Of course, in a central american country citizens burned down the radio station that aired War Of The Worlds and killed 15 people. People are flawed, always have been and always will - gov't or not, technology or not. The older I get the more I feel like Falken in War Games - it just doesn't matter what we do, we're destined for failure and extinction.

What's your argument against Ron Paul? (curiosity, not poking with a pointy stick)

I'll try to be more descriptive in my responses; usually they're snippy because it's all I have time to jot down at work and submit before rushing off to put out some other fire, so for the losses in translation, I'm sorry.

And for the record, being called a twat makes me laugh. It's just so inane.

I think most of us, excluding godzilla(i don't remember his new name), crosscheck, and sabresfansince1980 get a little snippy because that's how we talk to our friends in real life and that sarcasm in words get lost because there isn't a real personal connection between any of us and then we perceive little connotations out of one another's posts and pick at them. then it escalates quickly.

the other day i was having that sort of argument with a friend and i told him to stop lecturing me and being an asshole and have a f**** conversation. i think that is what would happen between us in real life. but on the boards we forget that and those little digs we write (accidentally or not) get exacerbated since you can't immediately call the person on that etc.

The only GOP "candidate" I'd vote for over Obama is Fred Karger.

I don't completely hate Ron Paul or Mitt Romney and if I was a Republican, one of those two would be getting my primary vote.
