The Buffalo Sabres got in one final practice before departing for Pittsburgh for tomorrow night's game with Sidney Crosby and the Penguins. Everyone was in attendance except for Ryan Miller and Lindy Ruff -- who are both heading right to Pittsburgh.

All of the other Sabre Olympians were in attendance. Jochen Hecht, Henrik Tallinder and Andrej Sekera participated in the session; Toni Lydman did not.

Patrick Lalime and Canisius College's Andrew Loewen shared the goaltending duties. There's no word yet on whether it'll be Miller or Lalime tomorrow night in Pittsburgh.

Patrick Kaleta was practicing fully with the team Monday. He hasn't played since the Sabres last game in Pittsburgh on February 1st. He suffered a bruised foot in that game.

You can catch tomorrow night's game with the Penguins on WGR SportsRadio 550. Pregame begins at 6:30 with Mike Schopp and The Bulldog. Rick Jeanneret will join them to open the show. Brian Koziol will have the intermission and post-game shows.

He was there, but he didn't practice. Does anyone know if he was hurt at the Olympics?

If not, a trade must be coming.

I don't know if he was hurt. I didn't catch anything about that during the Olympics, and do recall him playing in the bronze game.

Interesting. Could mean trade, could mean a maintenance day. Could also mean his equipment hadn't made it back yet. :)

I think it's a "maintenance day" since Lydman is older than Sekera.

Plus, it could just be his flight was later and/or they were partying a bit about the win in the Bronze Medal Game.

I doubt it is a looming trade.

Now if he doesn't play tomorrow night........

They had earlier exits than Sekera and Lydman from the olympics.

Did Lydman have to stick around to be awarded his medal? Either way I dont think this is much. Lydman played some big minutes for Finland. He's probably just tired and getting a maintenance day. But you never know right now.

Darcy is in a tough situation with Tallinder and Lydman. If you want to make a run at the cup this year with the way Miller has been playing does he keep them both and lose them for nothing or does he trade them both of these unrestricted free agents and maybe mortage some of the future and go after a couple of big pieces. I think maybe adding a player or two would help but I wouldn't mortage any of our top prospects because I think this team might be a year or two away from being back to where they were when Drury and Briere were here.

I'm pretty sure he was in attendance for the medal ceremony.

I think it's just a maintenance day - he was playing big-time shutdown minutes for Finland.

I don't know why we would trade Lydman. If anything, i'd look to pick up another Lydman type player.

What you do is trade them as soon as you can for picks, especially if teams are interested in them at that time also.

Then you have a upper hand on getting picks, or getting RFA's for them also.
