Sounds like McCauley shows no delusions about making the roster (he talks more about what he likes about the Pirates than anything else) and is ready to kick ass in Portland when the season opens.

Dude, you didn't just spell Myers wrong, did you?

And neither can be re-upped until the July 1st that precedes the final season of their deal. C'mon, that's common knowledge.

yes, i did, BUT i was typing fast and running out the door... I did fix it, sorry... and im not as up to speed on NHL contract stuff... I little more NFL versed... the NHL confuses me with entry level crap and RFA nonsense and goofy trade vs movement clauses... so Im getting better on that end... work with me here...lol

Quick primer time!

Contract Extensions - Whether a player will be UFA or RFA, he may not be extended prior to the beginning of free agency before his final year. Example: Tyler Myers cannot be extended until 7/1/2011 because that will be the start of the free agency period prior to the final season of his current deal.

Entry Level Contracts - A prospect may be signed to an entry level deal no longer than three years, and there is a rookie maximum salary of (I think) $975K. However, bonuses can push an ELC's cap hit as high as $3M. It's what happened to Pat Kane with his deal.

NTCs and NMCs - An NTC is a No Trade Clause and comes in two flavors: full and modified. A full NTC means he can't be traded whatsoever, while a modified NTC means the player can choose a certain amount of teams he would or wouldn't be OK with (terms and amounts are stipulated differently within each deal). An NMC is a No Move Clause, which is like an NTC but also means the player cannot be demoted to the AHL or waived either (I believe - this one I'm hazy on).

Your welcome :)

Don't get me wrong, there is ALWAYS room to improve, but at what cost? Over-powering one position just to de-value another? Over-paying for a rental (the number of people who would ship out Ennis for Kaberle ASTOUNDS me)? There are too many factors in play surrounding the Sabres roster to make a trade or signing easy.

there are actual sabres fans that want to give up Ennis for Kaberle? really? are you sure they aren't closet leaf fans? Don't get me wrong I would actually LOVE to see Kaberle in the Blue and Gold... BUT Im NOT giving up anything close to what Burke would want for him, so Im ok with not having him.... The best Id do for Kaberle is Stafford and a 2nd... and the only reason I do that is because I don't see room for Staff with Ennis stepping in and Stafford plays like a girl... Now we could also send Staff packing to the highest bidder for picks and then try and turn those pick(s) + the 2nd for Kaberle... but again, Burke won't do it...

Let me ask, cause I am horrid with NHL player/trade value... What, honestly, is Kaberle worth ... and Im guessing Burke wants double that, lol... top prospect + first round pick, etc.... Just don't fall for it Darcy! Or would you be will to give up a first round pick for him? I like young talent... i don't like sacrificing first round picks...

Burke's just mad he gave up two first rounders for a bum like Phil Kessel.

yes! thank you.... now its remembering it, lol... so for the ELC contracts the clubs really have to budget the potential of the escalated contract... that could be a little sneaky...

Talking Kaberle and this is purely a rumor i heard, Burke would accept Roy for kaberle. I know it's hard to give up the nice roy contract for one year of kaberle. plus then you have to replace Roy. Which is were i would consider trading for Jeff Carter. Philly needs to lose cap space, we could offer them something like sekera, stafford + for carter ( i don't really know their prospect situation on D, but i know the sabres have depth there. Carter is an RFA, so if darcy cannot re-sign him and carter gets a nice offer sheet we get picks. Kaberle would be that PPQB and help myers grow even more than tallinder helped myers. or what the hell throw an offer sheet at Gagner make the oilers match it ( i know regier would never do it).

Note there is a +, meaning more too the trade idea. i'm not suggesting straight up sekera and stafford for carter. And no i didn't do the cap math.

gives you lines of
Vanek - Carter - maybe Kassian/ kennedy
Ennis - Connolly - Pominville
Hecht - Niedemeyer - Grier
McCormick - Gaustad - Kaleta

Myers - Kaberle
Rivet - Leopold
Weber - Montador
Butler (if not traded)

It's sad that as long as Quinn is in charge Regier will be here, and as long as Regier is here Ruff is here. Say hello to more years of mediocrity Buffalo. However it is urged that you don't accept it.
