I found this quote from Tyler Myers today in the pregame article for tongiht's game. If that's their attitude, then something's wrong.

Quote:
"We're four games in and there isn't anything to freak out about," defenseman Tyler Myers said. "We had a lot of chances, we just didn't put them in."

I don't know if they should necessarily "freak out" but some sort of urgency or an attitude of "we have to win" would be great. When exactly did they have a lot of chances? Was it in the 1 shot in 20 minutes on Wednesday?

Its early, so I wouldn't say the sky is falling. I think you're putting a negative spin on what Myers is saying

I wouldn't disagree with him. Freaking out doesn't do much to improve fortunes.

Myers is correct of course, but as a rabbid fan I have to agree with sabresrocker56 sentiments on the OP.
I too, am growing concerned this early in the season. Its not so much the record of 1-2-1, but its the lack-luster performances in these home games that has me a bit worried.

Miller appears to have settled in after 2 performances I am sure he will forget about, as will we.
The Defense is a bit scary, but it appeared to settle down some in the NJ game.

I won't go into the Vanek and Connolly thoughts again, but someone mentioned how Lindy doesn't give time for lines to find chemistry. Outside of Ennis, Gerbe and Nieds I think this group should well know each other by now.

The irony is, I don't find scoring to be a problem, my concern is the same as it was the last 3 seasons now, a pretty shitty breakout and transition game from the defensive zone to attack mode.

As Squanto (and many others) have pointed out (and rightfully so), I'll wait till the 20 game mark to really make an assesment that has more legs under it, but I still have my concerns, none-the-less.

Freaking out will result in more blunders than anything. I wouldn't say they need to play with desperation, more so they need to play smarter and not try to do too much and make better decisions on the ice. "Keep it simple, stupid" comes to mind.

That being said, if they lose the rest of the games in October, end up being bent over the boards and taken from behind in every single game, I may lean towards pushing the panic button then.

He's right...they are only four games in, so there really is no reason to get overly worried. Obviously everyone wishes that we were winning these games instead of losing them, but Tyler didn't say that this team doesn't have a sense of urgency or a need to win. Come on, that's a given...of course these guys want to win. He just means that it's not time to start feeling as though everyone needs to be traded, fired, benched, etc.

Taro says, if you are going to panic, panic early...but, it is probably better not to panic at all.

Every players different, some of them use pride and anger to motivate them when times are tough. Others need to get away from the negative thought process. Everybody is different, whatever works for you use it. If Myers wants to be calm and chilled before the games then maybe that's what he needs, maybe he's been putting too much of the burden on himself, let's not forget that he's still only like 20-21!

judge by his performance tonight.

If I were Myers I would worry about his own game. He doesn't look like the same player like last year. Last year he was a stud. He was carrying the puck up ice, setting up other players, playing good defensively. This year he's been more physical but seems like he needs to be more involved from the backend. He's been coasting back when the puck is behind him. He needs to get his shit together. He looked great in the preseason as with most of the team but it seems like this team is in a funk. I'm just wondering if the losing continue's if we finally see Lindy get replaced. Also seems that if most of the players are just sick and tired of Lindy and want to play a different style.

Myers' statement makes him look brainwashed. The Sabres have lost five straight. His play this season has been dismal with the "sophomore slump." Everyone is afraid to score goals. He needs to freak out.

I agree with him, you start freaking out you will make more mistakes then you already are.

If they keep their chances up, it will come together, if it doesn't, that's when panic mode is ok.
