Rivet is probably aware the future of the Sabres is likely without him.

If the Sabres are able to trade him, it will likely be to a bona fide Stanley Cup playoff team. I do not know if he still has a residence in San Jose, which could be a likely destination, but somewhere out in the Western Conference would be appeasing.

If we want a quality roster player in return, might as well add another player who we do not intend to stay here as well. Having more trouble trading Connolly, we should trade Stafford with Rivet.

It seems to me that injuries and age may have prevented him from being in shape for camp, and I don't think he's done enough this season to regain his conditioning. Either that or something is just missing emotionally from his game. I don't know who would want him on their team at that price, maybe at the deadline. BUT!!! If he's not playing all season, who is going to trade for him then, either?!

What a mess.

There is no one certain way, but Miller sure as shit is two steps in the right direction.

I do agree Miller is a step or two in the right direction for the club.

I don't agree with players "playing to their salary level", if this was the case, Miller was worth a whole lot more than 6.25 mil last season.

The salary level is agreed to by both management and the player/agent, therefore its both parties responsibility to ensure the player achieves the necessary goals to be successful.

In the case of the Sabres, as this dead horse gets beat yet again, riding a goaltender into the playoffs and cup contention has a slim chance of success. Been there, done that.

Lets beat the Darcy Regier dead horse routine one more time as well.
It is his responsibility to put together the appropriate pieces for success.
The Defense isn't that bad defensively, but offensively the Defense is superb this season.

The Offense is 2 or 3 pieces away from competing on a serious scale. Buffalo needs to sustain longer forechecking runs int he opponents end as well as learn to hit the net when they shoot.
Anyways, thats the problems I see.

Just my 2 pennies is all.

I only mentioned the forward lines as having to play at a level comparable to their salaries. Connolly, Hecht, and Pominville in particular make a very underachieving 2nd line. They were great last year, and it took too long for Lindy to put them together as a matter of fact, but this year is a mess. They are all battling injuries, but Hecht should have adapted to his pinky problems by now, Pominville should be over his concussion and lack of skating by now, and Connolly is about two weeks away from being back and in top game shape. If nothing else bad happens in the near future they have no excuses.

The defense is modestly paid and is currently playing a little better than that. Morrisonn has been hurt a few times, Butler SHOULD be a #7 man, and of course Rivet's injuries have almost finished him off. Sekera is still a #6 man to me but has been playing at a #3-4 level. Myers has dropped off but Leopold has been very good 5-on-5...better than I ever would've thought. Montador has continued to be a solid #3-4 man, others' performance levels have changed around between sweaters but it's basically the same average unit, although the defensive zone play has been better lately.

Miller is the same, but aside from injuries he has (like all goalies) reflected his team's poor play through his stats. I look forward to Enroth as the back-up and closer to a 57-25 split in starts next season.

If Rivet is moved, I would like to think the team would do him just by sending him to a cup contender or a team that is on the cusp of winning it all. Not saying I'm selling our boys short, but interms of Rivie, I think he's put in his time and deserves it. Plus, it is just time to move on. I'd almost like to see him retire a Sabre, but the guy still has something to offer in the NHL. Just not with this team, IMO.

Now, time to start pulling the name/numbers off that 40th I bought in October on opening night ;P

F*ck that. He deserves it? Not in my opinion. Nobody deserves the Stanley Cup; they EARN it.

Time to move on? Yeah, for sure.

A team may want to chance Rivet. A change of location could possibly do wonders. Hard to say. Doubt we would get much of anything. But you never know with draft picks. Even lower ones. Sometimes they pan out.

Unless he goes to some magical land that cures his shoulder of all possible problems, a change of scenery ain't doing nothing for him.

Exactly. This isn't a problem of motivation or lack of heart. He wants to compete but his body just won't let him. No change of scenery will help his failing joints.

Or, if they're creative like me...

If the Bruins could move Marco Sturm at his salary...anything's possible.

A trade deadline move to a contender with injuries on the D would take him as the Sabres would have paid most of his salary for the year at that point.

I noticed last night's roster report Rivet did not have the "C" next to his name. Even if you're scratched, the "C" is still listed.

Marco Sturm still produces.
