First, Miller, playing to far out and gave away what I call a softie. No biggy, but it put them up by one.
He definitely was out of position. The 4 Sabres Ryder skated thru to get that goal didn't help either.
Not a good play in the defensive zone at all.
That wasn't a softie at all, are you kidding?
The defense can't allow Ryder to walk right in like that. Miller is in the right position to challenge the shooter, where he normally is. The defense needs to do their job and put a body on him, not allow him to get through and change the angle. I don't think Miller expected his defense to just let him walk in like that, so he ended up in a bad position.
No, I'm not kidding actually.
Ryder was hauling full speed, watch the video, over and over again like I did. Ryder went into the zone (leaving Hecht in the dust on his way in) then flew by Montador (who did nothing but put his stick weakly in front of him), Leopold was heading out of the zone and couldn't build enough speed up to catch him once he turned around, Pomminville was standing still over by the boards at the blueline. Ryder drifted across the slot to his right (Miller's left) untouched by Montador, Miller should have backed into the crease to cover more area as he got closer.
I agree with PSP and you Squanto. He did come out to cut down the angle, and PSP is correct, it was a mistake not to back into the crease a bit as Ryder came across the slot. It was a weak goal in my opinion.
