So, I think that 3rd party sources that are sending Ruff packing may be quite wrong.

But, we'll see with time.

I wonder if that could also be interpreted as a sign that Lindy's not in contention for a GM job.

Good question PSP.
I am not sure if Ruff goes or not.
Ruff really isn't a bother to me.
Regier is where my focus lay.

I wonder what has caused so many european players to underachieve (be it underachieving in the eyes of fans, or legitimately underachieving) during Ruff's tenure.

The ire has been high for guys like Vanek, Hecht, Kalinin, Sekera, Afinogenov, Kotalik and even at times Lydman and Tallinder, not to mention back in the day with guys like Satan and Hasek. Have we had a European player live up to their potential in the Lindy Ruff era?

He's a member of the Sabres green team!
Gaustad would be lost without him.

I don't think that even Pegula knows 100% what's going to happen with people yet. If he's a decent owner, he'll want to come in and evaluate people for himself, and not base decisions from what he's seen on TV and in the media.

At this point, who's selling? Seriously tell me as I don't know.

Obviously things will start to shake out as the deadline nears, but right now...who's selling?

Looking at the West...Edmonton and St. Louis, and maybe Columbus who's sitting in 13th place right now is only 9 points out of 8th place.
Looking at the East ...New Jersey, Ottawa, and the Islanders are maybe the only clear sellers at this point.

Do any of these teams have assets to sell?

Other than teams in the top 8 with players whom they won't be able to sign due to contract reasons or due to injury...

I just don't want to get all excited for a market that might not be there. But if Pegula and Regier can pull off deals with the players we want to deal and get better returns on them....I'll play in that fantasy world for the next 3 weeks or so.

I'd be fine with them moving some dead weight for picks, and letting the kids play out the string.

Agreed. If the Sabres go into selling mode, I'd be perfectly fine with some of the Pirates playing out the season in the NHL.

I'd rather we keep Steve and trade away TC

There won't be any impact players at the deadline that can change Buffalo's season. Even still, players like Nieds or Rivet or Butler won't be missed at all, so we may as well trade them away for anything possible.

I know lots of fans will expect something before the deadline to comment on Regier or Pegula, but there really isn't anything special that can happen until the summer. If anything, the Sabres could squeak in and get Roy back just in time.
