So today, while playing in a tourney here in Rochester I got to meet Clarke MacArthur, Ric Seiling (who played in the A bracket and took home the whole tourney championship as a mid-50's year old man in a tourney filled with D1 players) and a kid named Shane Prince who Central Scouting currently has ranked as the 26th overall prospect for the 2011 NHL Draft. The best part was, they were all great people. Classy as you could ever ask for. Just hoping that other members have some similar stories about hockey players they would like to share. It was a hell of a hockey weekend for me.......

When I was a kid, my mom used to take me out to IceTime (before there was a Sabreland) and watched the team practice. I met Danny Gare, Bob Sauve, Mike Foligno, Gil Hamel, Craig Ramsey, Mike Ramsey & Larry Playfair. I have sticks from all of them except Playfair and the Craig Ramsey stick was signed by almost the entire team that year (probably '80 or '81). The 2 that were most memorable were Playfair and Sauve.

I met Playfair after a game when I went to get his autograph as he was sneaking out a side door of the Aud...he was wearing a "Members Only" jacket and eating M&Ms. He asked me to hold his M&Ms while he signed my and a couple other people's autographs.

I met Bob Sauve while he was having a drink after practice in the bar at IceTime. He was sitting with someone else but made time for me when I approached..I said he was my brother's favorite player and asked if I could have a stick for him. He took me into a room that was probably about 8'x8' and it was his stick room--nothing but Sauve sticks on 3 walls, floor to ceiling. He gave me one for my brother then one for me and asked if I had any other brothers or sisters then gave me one for my sister too! To this day, my parents basement has all the sticks there including all 3 of Sauve's. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I used to live around the corner from Josh Guevremont (sic) when I was a kid. He would come out and play street hockey with us.
Also, back in the 80's, all the Sabres hung out at Elmos, on Millersport Hwy. Hell, they may still, but I met a ton of them. THis was back in the Foligno-Andreychuk-Gillies-McGuire-et al days

I've met several over the years, my dad used to be involved with the Sabres broadcast in the 70s, so a lot of former players know him... Larry Playfair is a really nice dude.
