Only surprise was Stafford, but then I noticed how all the veteran "core" players were given letters. I thought Leopold would be a solid candidate for an "A", but it seems there might be an underlying statement with the choices. I'm fine with all the selections. Anyone else would've been too new or too young, aside from maybe Leopold. Regardless, it's up to the whole team to produce.

Meh, I'd prefer Vanek or Myers, because they seem to show traits of a captain on the ice more than Pommers, but whatever. Our team is still stacked and I like our "A" selections.

I don't hate this pick. But I don't love it. Whatever Pommers means to the team on or off the ice, I know one thing for certain: With the additional media attention that comes with being Captain, we're going to hear a lot more "yeah, definitely"'s.

Anyone else think the whole introduction process seemed a little awkward?

To me things looked tense after Vanek was announced as an assistant even Ruff commented on his hand shake being soft. I really hope Thomas takes this and does his best with what he has been given and not pout and play lazy.

Actually I think so too. I was thinking about how, as I watched the video, Ruff kept fussing at his face while he talked, looking semi uncomfortable. Then Pominville sounded kinda luke warm, saying a bunch of bland stuff in a bland tone. I'm not worried about Vanek at all, but the whole scene just seemed awkward, like you said. Maybe it was because they knew they were on camera.

I HATE THAT PEOPLE KEEP HARPING ON THIS. (Other message boards have been all over this.)

Nobody knows the dynamic between Ruff and Vanek. That could have been normal ball busting.

Of course it was awkward. When is the last time you ever saw such a video from the Sabres? Never.

Ruff also made a remark about Staffords handshake which drew laughter...
He was just effin around.

If anyone on the team is of the opinion it's their right or turn to be captain I frankly wouldn't want them to be.

It's a good call naming Poms captain... I was kind of hoping Regher get one of those "A's". Also I think an "A" should have been given to a player that came from outside of the organization. I dunno I'd feel like an outsider if nothing but "franchise" players were chosen. Just my two cents...
