i was talking to a kid at work today. enormous hockey fan. wings fan. he goes today "i think its funny, you wont though... how you feel about leino?" and i said "i like him. solid positionally, he can score. had a great assist yesterday. plus he shows up in april and may." and he laughed and said "give it time. theres a reason the wings gave him up for so little."

no idea what the fuck he was talking about. i like the guy. hes not your prototypical top 6 forward. he adds some sand paper to the lineup.

we shall see, i like leino though.

Of course, he's playing under Ruff now, who can turn a #9 forward into a #6 forward.

Tell your friend he knows nothing about Leino or the Sabres and should keep his mouth shut. Then proceed to make a whacking off hand signal.

actually, thats whats odd about it. he DOES know alot about the sabres. i was shocked. he was talking about how valuable vanek is in areas that dont show up on the score sheet and stuff. he said the main complaint about leino is he has an attitude and is a jerk to people and can disrupt the locker room.

who knows. im not concerned about it. hes a player i like.

Maybe it was because he was young on that Wings team. Big reason for an attitude.

He must not have seen Leino play with the Flyers during the Cup finals.

Perhaps he did not like the locker room situation in Detroit? Plus it is not fair to make judgments about someone in the early years of their careers. People mature as they grow older. I think he is just bitter they let go of him. This guy works the puck like an And 1 mixtape tour basketball player. He is a magnet for the puck and when he has it magic happens. His motion looks slow but he moves with fluidity.

Mike Babcock said that Leino was the best player he ever sent to the minors and hated having to do so.

I still honestly think he's made for the wing. Either that or he was just reaping in the rewards of playing with Briere/Giroux. I dunno if anyone noticed kinda similar to Connolly in the way that he's always turning here and there trying to make a make some sorta move and then eventually losing the puck. Obviously it'll take a lot to assess his "game" at centre so far but as of right now definately not worth the 6 mill that he is making this season. But I'm hoping he figures shit out.

...and then the lights went off. I want to say literally, but it's figurative in the closest way to literal possible.

If that made any fucking sense.

It might take half a season. That's too long, but eventually he'll be fine and probably end up a 60 pt player for the rest of his contract. He's the one player I'm willing to cut some slack, since he has the most adjustment to handle.
