Take a look at this goal by Montador, and watch what Gerbe is doing through this whole zone time.
The first thing he did in this video was drive hard to the goal. He saw Roy posted on the goal line, and he was looking for the pass in front.
When he realized the pass wasn't coming to him and he was in close, he gives the Washington defenseman a little shove to give himself some more room to have a clear shot should the puck come to his stick.
When he gets hit from behind, he realizes he has to move in order to be free for a shot should the puck come loose, so he backs up into the slot.... something that Vanek does A LOT.
Sure enough, the puck did come loose, but not to his forehand, so instead of taking a weak shot with 2 defensemen in front, he draws the man to him and dishes the puck to an open Roy below the goal line, spins away, then moves in front of the goal again when he sees Roy push the puck up to Montador.
That constant movement in front keeps him open and puts moving objects in front of Theodore to make it much more difficult to focus.
But he ALSO drew the defenseman to him, who ended up deflecting that shot to give us a goal.
The most impressive part of all of this was it all happened within 8 seconds.
http://sabres.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?h ... ent=BUF115I like this guy's game. He's going to be a pretty good goal scorer in my opinion.
We'll see.
