one of the best things about gerbe, in my opinion, is he plays with that chip on his shoulder. he's gotta go out every night and prove himself worthy. some of the guys seem to think there is nobody on their coat tails and thus they can take a night off. Gerbe also brings an energy which i think a lot of guys can feed off of. as well the kid seems excited like all the time.

Yes, the Caps game did change my mind about Gerbe.
I would like to officially put out a motion that Gerbe replace Hecht on the roster.

Would anyone like to second this motion? ;)

I would take anyone to replace Hecht on our roster, and is Gerbe still gonna play tonight then?

Hecht isn't that bad this year. I want him, but he is WAY too much. When does his contact end maybe we can resign him for less?

I like the way Hecht is hustling, but he just doesn't bring anything that great to the table anymore.

It's time to move on.

Did he really ever?

I think so. There was a time when Hecht wasn't too bad of a player. He did have a 20 goal season. I think he's a tremendous defensive player, and not long ago, that was a rarity among forwards.

If you look at the game of hockey, I think it's changed more than anyone realizes over the past 5 years. There has been even more emphasis on specific routes and movements in the systems.

Most importantly, however, back checking, blocking shots, and defensive play are all now EXPECTED every night out of forwards.

Hecht simply became irrelevant in this game 3 years ago.

I really like Gerbe's play tonight as well as Wed against the Caps. Last year he seemed like he just wasn't ready and needed to grow into his skills which I think he has done now.

Another good game, and another night I have my stance on Gerbe softening. He's starting to bring me around...it's too bad he's getting sent down tomorrow morning if/when Grier comes back to play against the Rags.

Gerbe had a good game.

I like his speed. I'll admit there's one or two more things he could learn from Portland, but he's going to be one hell of an NHL player.
