Mike Grier will not be in the lineup tonight as the Buffalo Sabres host the New Jersey Devils.

According to Head Coach Lindy Ruff, Grier's mother has fallen ill, and the forward has gone to be with her.

"We'll give him as much time as he needs," Ruff said.

With Grier's absence, Thomas Vanek was moved to play with Tim Connolly and Drew Stafford at the morning skate, while Nathan Paetsch was moved up to play forward.

Very sad for Grier, and he will be missed in the lineup. The one positive from this is that the B-LO line will be together tonight. I love the way Kennedy and Kaleta play together.

God speed to Momma Grier, get well.

My question is why Paetsch? Why not bring in Ennis?

Agreed. Kennedy has shown a lot more grit than I expected from him on the ice, as far as fighting for a puck and position and getting in the faces he needs to get in. Personally, I guess I just didn't see enough of him before this year.

It could be bad having Grier out of the lineup, although I hope it's not. He definitely has a certain presence on this team.

The logic in bringing up Ennis was replacing a skill player (Stafford) with another skill player.

Because Grier is more of a grinder than anything else, Patches makes more sense to Lindy.

Personally, I'd rather see Ennis. But that's just me. It's hard to tell a guy patiently waiting on the side for his shot at ice time that you're going to Portland instead.

I like Nathan Paetsch anyways. And if one of our defenseman goes down, we have an extra one that we can drop back from forward.

If it were me, I'd drop Paetsch back to defense and play Sekera up front.

Because Patrick Kaleta is not Matt Barnaby and has no hands. He can't score...he flat out cant, putting him with Vanek and Kennedy is a waste, he's a 4th line checking line guy who dumps the puck in and drives his man through the boards. He wont score 20 points this season, and he wont ever be anything more than a 4th liner. Why is that so difficult for people to accept? He's a checking guy, and does his job well. Leave it at that.

Barnaby played a similar game, but he had hands, he averaged a point every 2.6 games, and that's really good for a 3rd line checking guy, especially in the grab and clutch eras.

I'm so sick of hearing about Kaleta being on the 2nd, and 1st lines, he's just not that guy. Putting a natural goal scorer like Vanek with Kaleta is a waste, because nobody is out there to support him other than Kennedy, who is still a rookie, and can't carry a whole half a line himself.
