(WGR 550) -- Lindy Ruff gave The Howard Simon Show an early Christmas gift during his weekly 8 a.m. Tuesday appearance, announcing Ryan Miller as Wednesday night's starter -- in Ottawa -- and admitting Patrick Lalime will play this weekend. Both Friday versus Toronto and Saturday against the Penguins are home games.

What do you think? I'm thinking Lalime will go against the Leafs on Friday. Maybe Ruff liked starting Lalime during the first half of the back-to-backs, rather than the latter.

I like it.

Kessel is their only real dangerous shooter, and if you take care of him, Lalime's just got to make the basic saves.

Lalime goes against Toronto. Gotta but Miller in against the defending champs.

Lalime WILL play against the Leafs, but I'm scared of that. They are really heating up lately, and there snipers are really heating up.

Toronto is red hot right now, so they are not going to be a pushover for Lalime. They are 7-3 in their last ten, including wins over Ottawa, Atlanta, and Washington.

Then there is Buffalo's Saturday night curse. Is it me or do we always seem to struggle on Saturday nights?

I'm hoping for the best, but mentally preparing for something less.

This is true, but Lalime did just beat the Blackhawks last Friday, so there's hope.

The Blackhawks, although they are very good, were struggling to score goals. I really hope Lalime really was as good as he looked. Im glad he is playing so soon from start to start....if he goes on a roll, that would be great.
I don't see a lot of oppurtunities for him to play back to backs coming up...only two in the next couple months..

I would start lalime against the leafs. I would feel better with Miller in net against the penguins. Of course this is said with an unbiased opinion even though I'm going to the game Saturday and being a goalie myself seeing my Idol in net is preferred to then on the bench

Please oh please start Lalime friday!!

I agree, GS29.

IMO, I found that they struggled to score goals though by us forcing them to play our style of game. It might not be as flashy or as skilled as their team, but man it works! I found we played a pretty good, gritty, very containing game against them and Patty was able to play a calm, straight forward game. Granted, there were some blips here and there, but over all he seemed very confident inbetween the pipes.

I'd love nothing more than for Patty to bring that same swagger to the Laffs game.

I'm actually not that worried about Lalime. If his last game was any indication, that stint in Portland worked wonders. Apparently it really has been that he simply hasn't been used enough, all this time.

I enjoy using one game as proof that a theory is correct.

Well if Buffalo plays the way they did in the 1st period against Pittsburgh and Lalime is in net, the pens will kick the shit out of them. PLEASE Lindy start Miller against Pittsburgh.

If it means increasing the chances of losing a game to rest miller, which will increase our chances for the next week; I'm OK with it.

Miller is the best goaltender in the NHL right now, if he needs to sit, he should be sat

+1...winning 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 4 is always preferrable.

Well if Lalime plays tonight, I have the utmost confidence in him. He showed he can play well in that Chicago game with a resounding 39 saves, with a lot of great ones coming early. Hell, he almost had that Sharp goal, it tipped off his glove after he flew across to try to stop it. I think that stint in Portland woke him up in two ways. One, it shook the rust off and two, it may have sent a message that told him he could be in Portland more often if he doesn't pick it up. Let's not forgot some of the guys he stopped last Friday, he stopped Marian Hossa on a breakaway. Personally, I think he can win if the team plays like they did last Friday or are able to shut it down like they did against the Caps a couple of weeks ago. All we can ask of Lalime is that he brings his A game. The team needs to play well in front of him as well.
