Apparently Mr. Lecavalier feels Kennedy sold the spear he got to the stomach.

Quote:
Lecavalier admitted he took a "bad penalty," retaliating for an elbow in the back of the head. He also said he simply jabbed Kennedy in the stomach, though Kennedy sold it as if he had been stabbed. Lecavalier said he believed he deserved only a two-minute penalty. "(The referee) saw it as a five, and that kind of changed the game," he said. "I don't think it was the right call."

Just thought I'd post that. So much for any respect I had for this guy.

Here's the rest of the article if anyone cares:

You speared him in the fucking balls, Vinny, after you took a clean check.

You reacted like a bitch, and now you're complaining like a bitch.

This is just like the blindside hits, "I was just finishing my check"/"It's a fast game, things happen." BS.
Thankfully, Kennedy is not hurt.

Let's not forget after he speared Kennedy, he punched him square in the numbers while Kennedy was sprawled on his belly.

I thougth he got Kennedy in the stomach, where there's typically a lack of padding. They interviewed him on WGR post-game, which I'm sure is where the quote is from.

Gutless. I hope Hecht kicks his ass again.

I was amused by the next sentence in the article:

Quote:
But NHL rules 62.3 and 62.5 say a major penalty and a game misconduct are mandatory with spearing.

Pretty sad that the NHL beat writer in TAMPA knows the rules better than the NHL player.

I thought the punch to Kennedy's spine was more gutless than the spear. Sure you take a retarded, cheap penalty, but then you slug a dude when he's already defenseless? Be a man, Vinny.

I would have loved to watch Vinny's reaction sitting in the locker room for the goals scored during his 5 minute major.

I wondered if he yelled that's my purse before he pegged him in the knob?

there is always the option of calling a different two minute penalty. he could have called slashing or interference.

I disagree.

If he slashed him, call a slash.

If speared him, call a spear.

Referees shouldn't decide that a act was a 'minor spear' and call it something else just to skirt the automatic penalties associated with the spear.

Why, Vincent -- you remind me of Sidney Crosby.

Not in playing style -- not by any means -- but in the way you both cry.

I recall Crosby making a similar complaint after the Sabres came back from a three goal deficit to beat the Pens; he mentioned something along the lines of "we deserved better."

Earth to Sid and Vinny: whenever you commit a massive brain fart on the ice -- whether its giving up a 3-goal lead to lose or committing a major that allows the other team to score twice -- you don't deserve a damn thing other than what you receive . . .

Right Vinny, because 5-1 is SUUUCH a different outcome than 7-1.

As if we dont fucking OWN tampa, no matter WHAT calls are made on the ice.

(kind of like the next time the sens beat us, I wont be blaming it on one call)

It did change the game. Losing Lecavalier completely deflated the team, leading the Sabres on to have a good old-fashioned romp.

Yup, spear is the right call. 5 minutes and a game, imo. I'm not gonna call Vinny a bitch for it though, because back in the day that's how you kept guys off you, with stick work. If Douggie Gilmour did it 15 years ago no one would even be up in arms about it. He did the crime and the time already.
