It down to Boston or Montreal for the Sabres opponent.
Depends on where Buffalo finishes, but its looking more and more like Boston in the 1st round by the percentages.

Thoughts?

Would rather play the Habs, but we should be able to handle either so long as we show up.

It'd be 6 or 7 games but Buffalo can handle them imo.

If Montreal loses in regs tonite and the Rangers win tomorrow in extra time, I believe Montreal is eliminated and the Flyers and Rangers take over 7 and 8. Don't quote me, though - this is off the top of my head. Can someone do the math for me?

You are correct.

I'd love to jump to the 2 seed and play the rags first round.

Wrong. It's Rangers, Flyers, Habs, and Bruins as possible playoff candidates.

Correct me if I'm wrong. We are def playing Boston. Devils are crushing the islanders, no way will they lose. Even if we win the next game we are still in 3rd due to win ratio. If boston loses or wins against Washington (likely lose) they still stay in 6th. Boston would HAVE to lose and Montreal win in shootout, again unlikely. So if I'm sorrect...it looks VERY VERY likely its going to be Boston?

NJ is only a point ahead of us. If we win tomorrow in regulation, we win 2nd.

Yeah but they have 99 points, we have 98. We win, they win brings the talley to Devils 100 Us 99. Then say we win against them, brings us to 100 and them 100. Don't they go by most wins to determine 2nd place?

Your math is off...they have 101; we have 100. If we beat them in regulation, we are 2nd seed. If we lose to them, or they take it to OT, we get 3rd seed.

Thank you, I was adding one point where I should have added 2. Thanks for clearing that up. Glad I came to these boards, seemed a little dead on the message boards over at the sabres site for sometime now. Thanks guys!

Actually, you are Wrong.
Percentages on multiple sites are putting Boston at anywhere from 38.17% to 45.12% that Buffalo and Boston will meet in the first round of the playoffs. If you look at my post, I stated "by the percentages".

Are we really arguing about who's right and who's wrong about a different perspective?

I apologize for looking at it the wrong way. :)

lol, no reason to apologize, I'm only posting what I am catching from other sources. I think they base it on opponents remaining and the such.

I don't really care which one it is, I believe we are going to take the first round 4 games to 1. It will be a great time for all of us Buffalo fans as this playoff season pushes along. I am just happy they are in.

Whoever made this post is wrong. If we win tomorrow and Philly wins, we play Philly in the first round.

I like your userID, new dude, but Slesh was talking percentages and he's right - the Bruins and Sabres have the best chance of meeting up in the first round as opposed to any other opponent for the Sabres.

We all already jumped on him for being wrong before we all realized he did say percentages in his first post

Still, welcome!

it depends on who owns tie breakers.

(http://www.nhl.com/ice/schedulebyweek.h ... v-sch-main) remaining schedule.

if the flyers beat the rangers they are tied with montreal with 88 pts.
If the rags beat the flyers they are tied with montreal with 88pts.

88 pts is currently 7th position. and will be the 8th as well.

nobody can catch boston as the habs have no more games boston is in the 6th position w/ 89 pts.

If the Sabres beat the Devils tomorrow they move to 102pts and will take over 2nd place. If this is the case the sabres play the habs rags or flyers depending on who owns tie breakers and who wins between the flyers and rags.

If the Sabres lose to the Devils or win in OT (as a tie would result in a tied record season, and NJ has more wins on the season) they will remain in 3rd and play the Bruins. (http://www.nhl.com/ice/preview.htm?id=2009021227)

The most likely candidate is the bruins.
From one of the headlines on the nhl.com site the habs have a berth, so they own the breaker on either philly of NYC. (http://www.nhl.com/ice/recap.htm?id=2009021214) and from what I'm reading it looks like the Habs own the Breaker on both philly and NYC. (http://www.nhl.com/ice/preview.htm?id=2009021223)

therefore your two possibilities rely on a regulation win by the sabres against the Devils and it will either be boston of montreal.
