They use the following metrics to gauge things:

Pct 82 GP
Forwards, Pts/82 Games
Defensemen, Pts/82 Games
All, Points/82 Games

The top 5 were:
1 - Buffalo
2 - Montreal
3 - St Louis
4 - San Jose
5 - LA

And on a pts/82 gp, Roy is #2 and Pominville is #3 amongst forwards drafted after the 1st round since 2000. Paul Stastny is #1.

This doesn't surprise me at all. The Sabres are really good at drafting, lately even IN the first round.

I think it was apparent that we were one of the best in the draft. We just suck at everything else... aka trades, FA... etc... haha

Interesting how this does not in any way translate into on-ice success, lol. Unless you consider disappointing, underachievement successful....

No cups....first round loss this season and two years without a post-season previously. Those first two years clearly skew that stat

if the caps were called for the several penalties they dished out in game 6 of the 98 ECF....

if leclairs shot through the net was called back in 00....

if peca was on the team in 2001...

lotta what ifs, and i play em often.
