So last night I was recording the game while I was at my son's soccer practice and my wife decided to re-arrange our living room. Of course, she unplugged the DVR with about 5 minutes left in the 1st period and it picked back up at the end of the 1st intermission. I thought I was ok but then I heard them talking about Pommers getting hit from behind. What happened? I didn't see the hit or know anything about it other than RJ saying it was a good thing he didn't go to the hospital. I have to assume it was pretty damn ugly.

Thanks. That's not as bad as I had envisioned it but maybe I just imagined the worst. Did cause any other effects...other fight afterwards? This is the kind of crap that happens in games that we need Kassian for.

edit to add: fan4life61...your avatar is awesome. where is that from?

Connolly jumped on top of Hjalmarsson and tried to slap him a couple times, that's about it.

Actually, Connolly's play was pretty aggressive. He wrapped his arm around Hjalmarsson's neck and threw him down.

It was the only good thing he did all night.

Don't know if it's happened to anyone else here, but being ripped down to the ice by your neck is not fun.

WOW. Quenneville says that it is arguable whether or not it was even a penalty. Regardless, could be a suspension.

BTW, that picture of Connolly is freakin' awesome.

Connelly knows best what it is like to have a concussion. If he saw Pommer's hit the glass that hard, he probably knew instantly Pommer's was screwed. He was probably VERY pissed off. lol

Terribly stupid play by Hjalmarsson.

I restrained myself from saying anything to Barnaby about that. Was disappointed to see him say it.

Why did you restrain yourself from saying anything?

Nothing I say is going to change Barnaby's feelings on the matter, especially not over 140 characters. If I saw him out, and could engage in dialog, then maybe. But not over twitter.

Hm, probably a good call then. I dont know that i'd have had as much self restraint.

I'm having trouble seeing the hit as intentionally malicious or even a penalty, as it is very close to shoulder to shoulder, and although Pommers hadn't touched the puck, it was right there. Today's game is extremely fast, so to hold up if necessary must be very difficult. Hjalmaldesossosnjonson doesn't appear to give an extra push, elbow, crosscheck, leave his feet, too many strides, etc.

Of course the outcome is horrible, but wonder if it's simply a case that stuff happens. How much check, assuming it's legal, is too much check? Epic hits happen. Awkward falls happen. Sometimes a guy flys like a rag doll.

And in no way to put anything on Pommers, nor disagree that headshots and such should be eliminated from the game, but players aren't protecting themselves anymore. They rely too much on their equipment and turn their backs when they shouldn't, unlike the old days with skimpy equipment. Despite technological advances, equipment can't keep up with bigger and faster players (much the same situation in football). Perhaps Poms wasn't braced, prepared, or as strong on his feet as he could have been.

Blaming Pommers? Nope. Simply not seeing the excessiveness in the hit, although trying to, and also thinking that stuff happens.

(Oh . . . and Barnaby is an idiot.)

Intent does not matter.

Look at this video, starting at 1:26

Hjalmarsson's shoulder contacts Pomminville right between the 2 and 9 on the back of the jersey. It was not shoulder to shoulder at all.

All of the Chicago fans think RJ is biased? How fucking ironic.
